Hi Gary. Yes he told me he met you. I watched Clark’s video of some of your hunt this morning. You are an inspiration mate. Keep it up as long as you are able mate💪 I’ve never had the desire to hunt deer but after what my brother was saying and watching Clark take you and others out it sounds like and great experience. Maybe I need to give it a go. I’m not really a hunter but usually focus more on feral pest control and getting the numbers on the ground.

@@intothenight1993 Mate I we see the deer as a resource not a pest animal yes numbers need to be controlled but in a win win situation for all landholders and hunters alike if you had them on your farm and they brought in $$$ would you eradicate or manage you can shear a sheep 20 times but only skin it once if that makes sense

That’s great mate. The worst part now is prepping the new traps. But if you clean them up and spray them with vinegar they will get a good coating of rust on them a lot quicker.

Hi Josh, I always wear gloves (Latex) when setting traps. So that my trap, the earth, grass, etc. do not smell like humans and my prey may be warned. Further one good luck with your trapping.
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Ай бұрын
That’s all good mate. But there is no way of eliminating you scent completely from the area as even walking there with shoes on still leaves ascent trail for days. I didn’t use gloves at all for this trap line but it turned out to be my most successful trap run to date. As you will see in my next video 👌

@@intothenight1993 You tube is getting a bit sensitive about some content apparently. Unfortunate because it's often reality, and mistakes/bad luck happens . It's SPCA that should be concerned about deliberate unethical animal welfare issues (& accept pest control & nature include killing. It is ironic many of the PETA inclined have pets cats that wander (one way with the right neighbour active), yet deny or excuse the consequences to other creatures inflicted by cats. Loose dogs can be similar.

Good one mate enjoyed that 👍👍👍👍👍 I used to use a tomahawk to dig the holes but I was mainly using the big old traps back then. Couldn’t put paper over the jaws with them they would go off slow and jam up. I always used drags, old broken rails normally which doubled as a stepping stick. Always scratched like a dog too to disguise the ground and I liked to sweep the ground with wattle branches

Good no yha Trapper! Great intro to setting traps mate 👍 I have gone to landscaping screws instead of stakes as they are quite to stake the trap, in areas like mine in the mountains where the dogs like to hide on the scruby ridges during the day n spy on anything that draws there attention....also much easier to extract once your finished with the trap too... also have had poor results with the backing paper in clay damp ground..tends to make the paper damp n not tear, then rolls up clogs the jaws of the trap enough fora dog to be able to pull it's foot out n results in a missed catch... anyway just what I have found here in the Great Dividing Ranges of SEQ.. keep up the vids mate lovem!
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Yes I’ve been thinking of trying some landscaping screws. I need to find some that are long enough. As to the paper I’ve never had a problem with it but if the ground is damp here in this black soil I don’t set traps and it is so sticky it slows the traps down if it doesn’t glue them open. 😂

Yessir. Welding a bead on the crossframe and J hooks is cheap insurance. Did those traps come already bubble tipped? I've neglected to bubble tip my newer traps and need to do it before my luck runs out. Thanks for the great video
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Ай бұрын
Yes they did come bubble tipped. Western trapping supplies does a really good job of building these and you virtually don’t have to do any more with them other than welding the swivels as I did but some people say it’s not necessary but I do it as an precaution. They are pretty much just buy ready to clean and use off the shelf. 👌

That's good that the ptb recognize the problem and pay an incentive to help work on the predator problem. There's nothing here, but some of us work on em anyway to benefit the prey species

One extra thing you can do if using D shackles to tie to cable or extra length of chain is to put a bit of tie wire thru the hole in the shackle bolt and and twist lock it thru the D and it will never come undone, just like welding up the swivel hooks 👍
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Ай бұрын
Thanks mate. That’s a good point. Although I’ve never had one come loose after tightening it properly.
@granthatcher-yp2wp
@granthatcher-yp2wp Ай бұрын
Yes its one of the the less likely things to happen if the shackle is tightened properly but a bit of wire is cheap insurance to make sure that a dog doesn’t get away after all the effort it takes to get one to put its foot on a pan thats only a few inches in size when it can walk wherever it wants 👌
