I have 5 sensors on my 2nd floor and at times I can see a 10 degree difference between them. Running the fan for a couple hours manually seems to help even the temperature out across the floor, but your tip to schedule the fan periodically is going to automate keeping the entire floor comfortable. Thank you!

All very well and good, if you need it for heating....OR, if you live in a dry arid climate, say Arizona or Nevada. But how about those who live in a highly humid climate...say Florida for example. One of the functions of an air conditioner while in operation is the removal of moisture from the air as it passes across the face of the evaporator. This moisture is referred to as humidity, and is the condensation that can be seen dripping from a pipe which is run outdoors from the air handler. Where these fan settings become a problem is when the A.C. compressor shuts down after the temperature setting has been reached, the fan will still be running. The effect of this condition is that the air (still ) running across the evaporator coil will pick up the moisture left on the face of the evaporator coil and in the drain pan and put it back in the area that you are trying to cool. To complicate matters, the human body is quite susceptible to the relative humidity in the air surrounding it.. As I write this missive, the outdoor temperature here in South Florida is 83 degrees, with a humidity level of 73% (rather mild for this area today). The average home with a correctly functioning Air Conditioner would have a temperature setting of say 75 degrees which would correlate to an indoor humidity level in the range of 50 to 56%, all things being equal, ie. no open windows, nobody going in and out through the exterior doors. So again, this Nest thermostat is fine for arid, or low humidity climates, not so much for the more humid zones, Nest might want to correct their advertising literature to steer their customers in the right direction ......Unless of course, there is a hidden function within the programing to allow the Fan to be set to 'Auto' so that it runs with the air conditioner.? I haven't found it. Many thermostats do have a fan setting of 'circ', this does run the fan at intermittent intervals outside the operation in sequence with the Air Conditioner; the purpose of which is to even out the average mean temperature of the conditioned space. while this setting will have something of a similar effect on the relative humidity in the conditioned space, it will not be as dramatic as it allows the fan to shut down at the end of the cooling cycle which in turn allows the moisture on the Evaporator to drain away...BUT....still, there will be moisture in the drain pan which can be drawn in to the airstream. I guess it all depends on what sort of condition you prefer, cool and dry or cool and humid.

Yeah drain over flow keeps cutting my system off an humidity gets up to 57 60 % it took me a min to find why it was automatically set to always run > central florida not a good idea for always on lol

I would like to run the fan to bring in and circulate fresh air 1hr per day. Is that the "always" feature and set it to 12pm and 1pm every day and is independent of the AC?

Does this work with Bryant variable speed furnaces? I bought the cheap nest thermostat but google told me it wasn’t compatible but the learning thermostat was, just curious

I would get the bryant t Stat to go with your bryant unit. They are nice and u can put it on your phone like nest. Nests are junk since Google bought them a few years ago. Ecobee are great t stats to

Heat and AC both work properly. Any reason you can think about why my fan only will not come on? Unit is in on position.

Fan option must have a G wire (fan control wire) connected between furnace and thermostat which is present in a 5 wire thermostat cable. If you have only 2 - 4 wires and no G wire, you either add a separate G wire or replace existing cable to 5 (or 6) wire cable.

It seems to me you have to turn on your thermostat on in order to activate the "fan".

I have an issue with turning fan only. When i go on fan and set the period time to run, next step ask me to turn on the thermostat to run the run the fan but going to run the a/c or heater on with fan. Any suggestion or idea to solve that problem?

From what little i know about it, the yellow/gold icon is supposed to mean it is set on "Rush hour" which supposedly means the Nest has automatically switched to this setting to take some pressure off the main power grid, whatever that means. But am not sure how to reset it back to your normal operating setting?

Mine does the same thing, even the fan schedule is disabled, both air and heater are not running, the fan runs randomly

@@tmywu the main thing is at night time, it create noise from the blower. I wish google design team stand out and give us a formal answer on it. Otherwise I may have to change back to use traditional thermostat.

Great info. We have one of these in our new house. Unfortunately I absolutely hate it. Too many options. It's a thermostat not a complicated piece of machinery. Not to mention I have to charge the battery every night because it's crap.

someone wired it and did not know what they were doing. you need a neutral wire to the thermostat so it gets constant power.

As Mark said, if you need to charge the battery at night it means at the very least you don't have a C wire hooked up between the thermostat and HVAC control board. That's the best way to fix that problem assuming the nest itself isn't defective

I just want the fuking thing to turn the fan on when the AC or Heater turns on, it wont do that but it will do it on everything else when the I set fan to always

The fan cuts off when the heat cuts off without a delay leaving the coil smoking hot. Useless!!!

Did you find any work around for this? I'm considering getting one of these but really need that exact level of granularity control .....to be able to "coast" a bit with the fan on for approx 15-30 minutes post-heating. But also temporarily turn on the fan only when a cooking smell needs clearing or a cool evening and an open screened window means the AC could run less. The term "smart" seems barely applicable to most of these devices unfortunately though this video is the first inkling that 50% of what I want is possible above and beyond the 0% potential in every other thermostat.
