Step by Step!
Today we're working on a Yardworks 10.5hp 29" snow blower with a Tecumseh HMSK105 engine.
My customer started to disassemble this when attempting to clean the carburetor himself, and ended up bringing it to us to fix.
The governor and carburetor linkage was also set improperly.
So in today's video, I'll be showing you how to properly set the governor, and also how to properly adjust the low idle RPM and also the high RPM setting.

Excellent video. Very clear instructions on setting the throttle/govenor. Especially helpful was the part about the lever falling down. That was my problem, and now that I fixed it, it works perfectly. Also helpful was the part on how to check the govenor to see if the gear was broken. Thanks!

Thanks mate. I picked up one of these off the side of the road that someone had given up on. They had a zip tie on the governor arm and it needed the carb cleaned. It's served me for a couple of seasons now, but it's been fiddly because the linkages are all mucked up. Now I should be able to fix it.

This video saved my bacon, thanks! Rebuilt the carb on my brothers older snow blower including the manifold gasket. All looked good but must have been a slight air leak at the manifold, tightened it up a touch more and good to go, no more uncontrolled top speed.

Thanks Jake for an amazing detailed video and, complete explanation of how a Tecumseh snow blower engine works. Your video helped me to adjust the governor's linkage ,as well as the low and high speed rpms screws. I wish we had small engine mechanics in my area. Who really knows how to explain in detail how thin it works. Great video. I really appreciate it. You saved time and money. Thanks and God bless you and your beautiful family in this holiday season.Great video

Great video , when people make adjustments they should be using a tachometer to a specific RPM spec . The more important adjustment would be the HIGH or fast speed which should not go over spec RPM as to over stress engine components , this could result in engine failure . I know this is in other videos but I think that it should be mentioned at any time you talk about carb. adjustments .Thanks for the video .

I have 3 of the HM80 Tecumseh engines with that set up. All 3 surge and hunt when not under load. When I'm using the machine on full throttle under load, they do not surge. I'm hopeful that the getting the governor set properly is the answer. Great video.

Once that throttle spring goes, good luck! No top end so it bogs down under load and throws snow half as far. Love figuring that out, thanks to this video, when there is a foot of snow in the driveway lol. It's like having a truck that the gas pedal stops half way. It'll get you to where you need to go but it will take twice as long. Great video, thanks man.

Thanks James . A generator question we had a Loncin LC3800DDC generator which showed a 110V output which i thought was abnormal because most show 120V. The original output was 57 hertz with 111.7 volts which we adjusted to 60 hertz 112volts. This should be fine but is it normal have not seen this before.

@jcondon1 2 жыл бұрын
@@waynestefinashen239 that generator seems to be sold in the UK with 110v and 230v output. No reason you could not run it at 60 hertz and bump the potentiometer up a little on the AVR to bring it closer to 120/240v. But 110/230 will not hurt anything as long as the hertz are at 60.

Great video, good instructions. I followed them exactly but still have an unsteady rpm with the governor pushing the butterfly down then it revs up then it pushes down, then up, and so forth. All my neighbors hate me. What causes that condition? At full speed it runs sort of steady but it won't idle. Weak spring on throttle lever mechanism? I took off the float bowl, float, float needle, idle air needle, and then blasted carb cleaner in all the passages. New air filter. It is an 8hp Tecumseh wood chipper with original carb.

I have this exact model engine with the 30” cut, I recently purchased a small tachometer to set the high speed rpm’s to manufacturer 3600 spec and the blower doesn’t throw snow past the auger housing… yikes. It seems when I adjust the rpm’s up I am able to throw snow further. I also replaced the auger belts. They have good tension and are not slipping but are notched. My two questions are this… what RPM is too high (max you’d be comfortable running) and do the notched belts make a difference?

Note that the spring being discussed at 8:18 is available as a replacement part... Tecumish # 34663. My machine was running slow and bogging down under load and I changed out the old weak spring and it runs much better. Donyboy has a video showing all the process. For a couple bucks, just put a new one in if you are in working in here. And that's a T10 screw to adjust the high speed. You can even do it when the sheet metal heater box is reinstalled if your have good light.

Came across your video while searching for a fix for my Tecumseh 9hp engine. When i light the throttle lever up, it moves forward like it should. If I test it like you do it do from the governor arm, it snaps back like it should, however, when i pull the throttle lever down, the piece with the linkage cable and spring, never returns back to its original spot. i think it should pull back when you push the lever down but it doesnt. Is that a spring issue still? thanks!

On my 5hp when I engage the forward arm it wants to do a wheelie. It runs great and throws snow far, problem is it’s the original single speed version and it’s hard to keep up with it.
