there is always going to be the one guy who will watch this and do exactly what happens in this video! and will do that without actually checking what the valve gap IS for the particular motor. Always check the specs! go to the official kawasaki website for oem specs. Or call them if you are not sure. spoiler: there are TWO (02) cylinders on FX series engines. And yes, you will be doing the same valve clearance procedure on BOTH cylinders. for a total of 4 valves (2 intake for each of the two cylinders and 2 exhaust for each of the two cylinders). Removing the spark plugs on both cylinders makes turning the engine by hand very easy. there is a torque spec for tightening these valves. While not necessary to go out and buy a pro torque it is important to tighten them down snug..but not gorilla twist...either. also this: it's important to do this valve gap when the engine is cold...and not below freezing or in temperatures that are in triple digits. protip: have a set of valve cover gaskets before you do this work. Replace them !

Hey guys need your help please... I have a kawasaki fx850v and it started running on one cylinder so I check my plugs and then changed them with new ones and problem was still there so I unplugged the coil wires to see which cylinder was firing and which one wasn't and found that the right cylinder wasn't firing so I ordered to new kawasaki coils and pulled the shroud and replaced both coils and kept the old one that was good. Hit the key and right side is still not firing.. so I thought maybe I got a bad coil so I replaced it with the good coil that I kept. Hit the key and still not firing...so I thought maybe it the valves and check them and intake valve was too tight and exhaust valve was at .012 so I set the intake at .004 and the exhaust at .006 and hit the key and it was popping and cracking through carburetor and it started running on both then back to 1 and back to both then back to 1 cylinder and then died. I really need some advise cause I cut some commercial properties and they are over 10inches now

Taryl, I have a fx 801v that's backfiring at idle but runs smoother with the blades engaged. I was told I needed a carb and I bought one but still does the same thing. It has 1300 hrs on it could it be the valves need adjusting? Never had them done. Looking forward to your input. Thanks

i like the adjustment layout on this much better...Briggs needs to take notes on this. to adjust their engines you almost need three hands, one to hold the feeler gauge, and two to turn the adjusting nut and lock nut.

dave1135 Funny thing about that is that every car engine with adjustable valves that I've ever seen had the same adjustment system as the Briggs and Kohler engines do.

I wish I would have seen this video a few days ago. I just did the valves on my Kawasaki FS730V and the manual called for .002" of clearance. I am not a fan of this system. Just breathing on the adjustment nut would take it from too tight to too loose. Then, once adjusted, any tightening of the lock nut would change the settings. If I left it loose, tightening the locknut made it looser. If I made it a bit tight, tightening the locknut made it tighter. The eccentric bolt just seems to have too much slop in it to achieve a repeatable adjustment. The manual called for 11Nm of torque on the locknut and it was next to impossible to get a torque wrench in there. Again, applying the proper torque changed the adjustment. I finally got it within range but I must have loosened and retightened the locknut 20 times. I'm sure Kawasaki went with this configuration as a cost-cutting measure. I'll take the good 'ole setscrew and locknut on the end of the rocker arm any day.

My engine is in a John Deere X500 garden tractor. I have both the Deere service manual and a Kawasaki FS730V service manual and they both specify .002 to .0039. After a lot of fiddling with the eccentric adjuster bolt I was able to get cylinder #1 valves to .003 and cylinder #2 valves to .0025. The other feature that made the job interesting is CYL #1 had the lock nuts on the bottom which left almost no room to get a torque wrench on the lower rocker. CYL #2 had them on the top which made for easier access.

@TheSynStalker
@TheSynStalker 7 жыл бұрын
deme7063 Honestly it wouldn't hurt if you're bored and looking for something to do during the winter, but you're going to go through a lot of gaskets and open yourself up to accidentally screwing up. Maybe once every two or three years would be often enough without being crazy.

Shouldn't you make sure your piston is at tdc before adjusting the valve clearance?
@danielebrparish4271
@danielebrparish4271 Жыл бұрын
You can if you like but there are 2 TDCs. One at the top of the exaust stroke and the other at the top of the compression stroke. TDC compression will be when both valves are closed and therefore both valves can be adjusted w/o having to give the flywheel another turn. But when one valve is open the other is always closed and you have a clear visual reference without having to put anything in the sparkplug hole.
