Sean, you are my #1 "How-to" archery guy. Thanks a ton for taking the time to make these videos. In another video you worked with a Diamond Edge SB-1. I got mine, got it set up and am loving the crap out of it. That SB-1 showed me that my DL was actually 26.0, and not 26.5 as I thought. Thanks, again, Bobby

Most informative and in depth archery channel on KZfaq hands down. Thank you for making these videos. I've learned more this last week than I have in my life shooting bow off and on. Just got a pse ferocity and learning to tweak it and tune it perfectly by watching your videos. I just got it today and am already shooting 3 inch groups at 30 yards. God bless

Sean! Thank you thank you thank you!!! I was getting to the point where I’d adjusted about everything I could think of to correct my groupings, with no luck, and was ready to accept that this bow was as good as it was gonna get. But I followed along, and found that my drop away was misaligned, pretty noticeably. And now my groups are absolutely the best I’ve gotten!!! Crazy that it’s the small things that make a huge difference!

Rather than measureing off the riser, my Bear Manual says to hold an arrow against the riser. Much easier to see if the two arrows are parallel because if its off a small fraction of an inch it will show up. This is hard to do without a bow vise though.

Thank you Sean. You are right in what you have said.. My peep sight don't stay in place after a couple of shots and this affect accuracy. I prefer the one with a rubber tube attached for better accuracy and I take down the measurement between the peep sight and the nocking point and remember it. Mine is a little more than 5 inches between the peep sight and the nocking point and 3.2 inches between the arrow and the upper most pin sight.

Hey Sean, another easy way to set the D loop is to leave the arrow and the brass nock in place and tie either the top or bottom. Then remove the brass nock and tie the other end. Then you have the perfect setup with a little more ease.

Hey Sean! I've been binge watching these videos of yours and decided I wanted to go hunting this fall. However, the bow I have now is old and the sticker with its stats have worn away. I know that it's a Golden Eagle Orion Mark II, but I've yet to find any info or parts to it anywhere. The string is frayed, the arrow rest is primitive, the sights are missing pieces, and the draw length is a little to small for me. This will be my last year in Virginia and I want to try to fill all my tags, but due to financial constraints I might not get to go this year if I can't find the money for gear, tags, etc. Do you know of any sites or brands that sell at lower prices? Or anyway for to get a compound bow for hunting this year? I've entered some sweepstakes to win bows but nothing yet. If not thank you anyway and good luck on the next Map Reading Challenge videos and this coming deer year. God bless buddy!

Send me an email through my website with your draw length and address, and if it fits you I will ship it out this week. It has a sight and rest included. God bless you.

Hey Sean great videos been watching a bunch learning some stuff I didn't know. As far as needing a bow press for the peep sight how do you feel about the string splitter tool. I see alot of shops using that for tying the drop away chord or the putting in peeps. Just curious on what you think of those? Trying to do as much without buying a press lol thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
You risk damaging the strands if you just push things through the string, so you need to be very careful. Most bow shops actually put a bow in a bow press before using a string splitter because that takes the tension off of the strands and then you don't risk damaging them. That's my input. God bless you.
@PizzaSteveNY
@PizzaSteveNY 4 жыл бұрын
@@seansoutdoors Appreciate the response and thank you. I have seen shops use the bow press many times for even just little stuff but I swore I seen shops using the splitter just when the bow was on the bow vise maybe not(not saying they are right by any means) I thought the splitter was designed to not harm the string but obviously that's not the case. I definitely would take your word over many others coming from someone with your knowledge and also someone who builds strings. I love watching your videos keep it up! God bless!

Man, love your content. Very informational and easy to follow. I'm having an issue though. I've recently replaced my string and cable set on my Bear Rant bow. There was immediate serving separation towards the bottom of the cam where the cable rolls into the mod. I can see that eventually,it will lead to the string being worn. I've purchased a string and cable set from 60X by the referral of the tech at Field and Stream that put the current string set on the bow. I'm nervous that the problem lies in something to do with the bow and I'll only be putting on my new string set for it to get tore up as well. I've contacted people with the manufacturer and haven't really gotten any information or assistance. Please help! I haven't been shooting long and have only been out bowhunting twice. I love archery very much but these issues with the bow are really messing with me. Thanks in advance for any info and/or advice you can give. God bless and have a great week.
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Serving separation is pretty common by the cams. Just keep an eye on it. The string should not start to fray or anything like that. I've never had a problem even if there was serving separation. Strings typically last one or two seasons depending on how much you shoot. Well, they can last longer but I generally replace them within a year or two.

I've been looking a few "wallet friendly" compound bow manufacturers such as Mission, Diamond, PSE and Parker. I'm trying to only purchase USA made bows. Do you have any recommendations regarding these manufacturers? I'm really enjoying your channel. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
@seansoutdoors

Mission is owned by Mathews, and Diamond is owned by BowTech. I'm not sure if PSE makes their bows in the USA or if they bring them in from China. I'd guess they bring them in but I'm not sure. BowTech and Mathews are american made.

Hi Sean, I just bought a bear cruzer g2. Im brand new to bow shooting. I have a center stabilizer. I also shoot with the quiver on. What side stabilizer do you recommend??
@seansoutdoors

Sorry, I just replied but gave an incorrect name so I deleted it and am writing it over. I used a Carbon Core side bar stabilizer for years which worked pretty well. Right now I am using a side bar attachment and 4 inch dead center stabilizer on it. Beestinger also makes some good options for side bars. God bless ya.

I made a comment on the first video I watched of yours and in that comment I said I have not seen a bow like mine since it was one that was bought for me back in 1986. I see by this video that you have that same bow in the background of this video. The compound bow on the left hand side of the screen as I am looking at it. How do you adjust the poundage on that bow please. Coming back after so many years and never really learned how to adjust the poundage, as my husband used to do all that for the kids and for me at that time. Now I need to know how to do this my self cause I want to go back to doing some practice to see how I would go at this now, before I join a field archery club.

I think a lot of the bows in that price range are very comparable. I did a review video on the Diamond Edge SB-1 that I think could be a good bow for you to look at. It has a great range of adjustment, so you could get it at a lower draw weight if you wanted. It also comes with the accessories you need. Lastly, if you ever wanted to set it up for someone else to try archery, it has a great ability to be adjusted for them too. Here is a link to that video I made on it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNeFqdaQ08qceqc.html

What bow would you recomend to someone who has only shot a bow one time in their life ? all i see are 18-25 pound bows and that sounds fairly weak. I'm 6'4 and 250pounds with a fairly muscly body i think i could handle something with a heavier draw weight. Also i have a natural pull towards shooting longer ranges rather than pin point accuracy at 10feet. For that reason i was looking for something that would suit me better than bows which are advertised towards kids. But in the end i do not want to spend more than 200-300$

Do you want to shoot a compound or recurve? If a compound, then you will probably have trouble finding one in that price range that will go out to your draw length. First determine your draw length by holding your arms straight out to the sides and having some one measure finger tip to finger tip and then divide that number by 2.5. that is roughly your draw length, then you need to look for a bow that will go to that length. You may need to search for a used bow if you want to use a compound. IF you want to use a recurve, then keep in mind that they are usually rated at 29 inch draw, so every inch longer than that that you are, you add about 3 pounds. so a 20 pound pull bow at 32 inch draw length could end up being around 9 pounds heavier and closer to 30 pound pull. In that case you are actually shooting at a higher poundage than what the bow is advertised at.... I'd say just search around for whatever you can find in your price range because it is simply going to be limited for you. Good luck and God bless

@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I can. For a peep I use this type amzn.to/3aLAcAd For a sight, I think trophy ridge makes some good sights and some are pretty affordable. The one is use is this one amzn.to/2KK0DLX but they have others that are much less expensive. Here is a midrange one amzn.to/2SiEit0 but you can also go much less expensive like this one amzn.to/3bQnNMv For a stabilizer I am using the BeeStinger Mircro Hex side bar stabilizer amzn.to/3cYp1Fz but you can also get something decent for less if you just want one that goes off the front amzn.to/2YjJyk8. You can also look at Apex if you want a sidebar that is a little less than the BeeStinger amzn.to/3d2U5E6 If you want something even less expensive than those, you could try something like this one amzn.to/3bQZ62C but realistically, I'd look for one that you can add weights to in case you wanted to be able to do that to add balance to your setup. This last option doesn't look like you can add weight to it. For a rest, I have been using the QAD Ultrarest HDX but there are plenty of options out there. amzn.to/2zDreb7 Some people like the simplicity of a whisker biscuit amzn.to/35eSuIW Quivers are a little more difficult in that I have not found one I like a lot and would say THIS is the one. A quiver that I have used for years that is light and pretty decent and on the affordable side is the Octane amzn.to/2y48DVw It is okay, not the greatest, but functional and all that. You can also visit my Amazon Affiliate Site to see other suggestions in archery products www.amazon.com/shop/seansoutdooradventures I hope that helps. God bless you.

Question about stabilizers> I understand the concept however, from a tree stand the bow is angled down. When shooting flat, it is easier to stabilize the bow to be kind of centered and balanced int he hand. But 15-20 feet up, the angle is different. Does that make a difference? Do you find that you should adjust your stabilizer weight and balance for that downward angle.

@@seansoutdoors Thanks Sean. I spoke with the folks at QAD yesterday regarding this issue, I am not alone. They make the launcher in three different lenngths. Set up my new compound and noticed when looking to front that arrow and string do not align with sight and string. The arrow rest is in all the way towards handle and still have a arrow width difference from pins to arrow. The pins tend to disappear when sighting, blocked by handle. Is this normal or is bow defective?
@seansoutdoors

Sounds like you are setting it up wrong. You set the center shot of the rest first and then sight in the bow. It is common for the pins to line up to the left of the arrow when all is done.

How would I diagnose if an arrow is out of line because of a misplaced rest or a misplaced nock point? My arrow is out of line on a bow I was gifted. I could adjust the rest and make the arrow in line with the nock point. If I can adjust my rest to meet my nock point, is that mechanically sound?
