In our opinion a Fluval Sea CP 1 or 2 would still be a good idea as likely you would have live rock or other decor.

Lexie, thanks for asking. When keeping SPS in particular it is important to understand what light levels the coral you purchased was grown under, some species of SPS would do well for sure. The others you mention with proper placement in the tank would be supported. It is important to remember that not only light supports a corals ability to flourish, water quality,composition and feeding for some species iis key and again, when considering SPS that will oblige the keeper to maintain a good selection of quality test kits, use a good source of water along with a quality marine mix and employ an aggressive partial water change frequency...remember that growing SPS in particular rapidly deplete the water of highly important carbonate content and calcium. Yes it comes with a filter foam insert and carbon, the protein skimmer and heater are not included.

It is a good idea to still add Fluval Cycle as it helps establish an optimal consortium of beneficial nitrifying bacteria.

The skimmer is located in the 1st chamber where the inlet grill is as is the cutout in that segment of the canopy. The foam filtration block in the second compartment consequently becomes a very effective bubble trap.

If your tapwater is suspect then a R/O unit is a good idea, if it is free of nitrates, phosphate and other impurities then the tap water conditioner should be sufficient.

Yes it is however we do recommend using cured live rock in a marine tank for biological establishment, it is so effective we see no reason not to use it. A good protein skimmer is also something we always recommend in a marine aquarium.

For corals that require a lot of movement around themselves, like soft coral that benefits from water current pulling waste away from themselves, directing the output in their general direction is better. For general oxygenation pointing at the surface is a good idea.

You can add bioballs in the empty chamber, best would be from an established healthy aquarium to help a new aquarium or simply to add some additional media for nitrifying bacteria to colonize.

Dave, we disagree not because we are employed by Fluval but because of the skimmate we collect with these skimmers that clearly demonstrate they are stripping organic waste out of saltwater. I am concerned about the base on the bottom not supporting all 4 corners of the tank do you think that might have caused it? did they give a reason why they wouldnt honor the warranty? I just looked and it says 2 year warranty. thanks for the heads up
