Hi George! I loved this video so much, I ordered a mariculture bonsai. It hasn’t come yet but it’s going into my 3 month old Coralife Biocube 16g. I’m just starting out with no experience in saltwater, only freshwater tanks. I have a reef rock in there now. It was a horrible choice and that’s why I want to replace it. The corals are safely on racks. I’ve got 3 fish, a cleaner shrimp and some snails. All are doing great. My question is: Am I going to kill anything changing out the rock to the bonsai? Is there anything I need to know to prevent that? I have a sand substrate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Thank you so much! Clearest video instructions I've seen for a new reef tank. I'm 100% new to aquariums, and want to start a small nano reef. I purchased a Fluval Edge (12gal). I added my live sand and salt water, and thought I did something wrong b/c the water was cloudy for a long time. Good to know that's normal! Also, I was looking for more info on the artificial rock, and you provided it! Keep it up. Thank you!

Make sure you never forget a water change and constantly monitor your tank. Small tanks are the hardest type of saltwater tank to maintain succesfully; contrary to what you'd think, going as large as money will allow is the right move for a new hobbyist; nano tanks crash in hours, large tanks crash over days.

Any good suggestions on how to stabilize PH? I have a reef tank I try to keep at 8.3. I'll use an 8.3 buffer which will do the trick... for about a day or two. Then it'll fluctuate and drop as low as 7.8/9 It seems like a never ending go around. Any tricks up your sleeve?

so what if you dont have water from another tank. Is adding bacteria starer okay if you are eager or should I return my sand for live and maybe add a shrimp, or buy some live rock. I keep haring everyone say cycle but BRS has a you tube he uses bacteria starter and adds fish next day. Are the people saying you must cycle just old school?

I've got a bit of an odd question... I work with porcelain clay and have made tank decorations for freshwater tanks. Would a coral adhere it's self to the non-glazed porcelain since it's porous? I want to make a tank decoration I can put corals on, but I want to make sure it would be ok to put corals on the porcelain.

I do not have any animals yet, but I am dosing 2 drops of Excel Flourish each day. I don't if it maybe grows until it exceeds the amount of fertilizer available, then starts to die?? I also have 1 small live rock w/ Coralline algae & diatoms on it in the system. Any ideas?

Hello George, a question based on personal experience.... you install a seawatertank in a dorm....can you even sleep with the noise? And if you can, do you have a room-mate who is fine with the noise also? Personally I even had problems with the noise-issues of a sweetwatertank in my bedroom, I had to chose all components specially on low-noise specs... Keep up with your unique upudates please !

Brian Delp Hopefully it’s leveled off by now! I would see if you’re vacuuming your gravel or if you have anything decaying in your tank? There is filter media to help with your ammonia such as carbon and ammonia reducing chips, and you can also add a half amount of bacteria starter to help combat the ammonia

Good video but, no need to add water from an old tank, this water does not really help with a cycle. You still need to let the tank cycle even with live sand, and you need some sort of ammonia source, you can't just leave it and expect it to cycle unless you are using live rock. You can definitely do a nano bare water without sand tank. Once the rock becomes live, it will act as the main harbor for bacteria, if you have enough rock you don't necessarily need sand. Sand can be helpful in other ways, but i'm not going to go into that right now. Also there is no need for a protein skimmer in such a small tank, however, a small reactor like the one you have can be helpful depending what you run in it. Good luck on this tank man!
