EVO 4 and EVO 8, are essentially to RECORD AUDIO INTO A DAW; mine is Cakewalk. Well, what is CRUCIAL, is that the user goes into the computer audio settings, and find the SAMPLE RATE AND BIT DEPTH that the computer uses. Then, in the DAW, identical settings need to be used. My laptop puts out 24 Bit, 96 KHz audio. If there is a MISMATCH, when you run the DAW, the audio gets messed up, particularly the LOOPBACK audio. And oh, setting the sample rate and Bit depth in the EVO software WILL NOT solve the problem! :) Audient helped me overcome this headache on my EVO 8; thanks, Audient! This video is a year old; anyone purchasing an EVO USB Interface now, would be well advised to choose the EVO 8. The two extra Combo inputs make a world of a difference. I can even plug in my cellphone audio into the EVO 8 using a split cable: 3.5 mm TRS to twin TS jacks into the EVO. There is one other thing I've learned. When you get your EVO connected to your computer, put your headphones on, and start talking or singing into the microphone, you can hear yourself, but not too loud. You might get taken aback and get discouraged about the volume. Your voice needs to be processed by the DAW, add reverb, and then you'll see! Even my Mackie mixer, same thing. Without reverb, my voice is kind of flat, but add reverb, then wow, what a difference! Volume goes up quite a bit! This may sound cynical, but I don't think anyone gets to be a singing star without reverb!! 😜😉😁

finally I got mine as well and have a quick question. in fl studio, while primary audio driver is selected as an input/output audio, there is no problem but when I choose audient usb audio asio driver as an input/output audio, there is no sound coming from app like spotify or youtube videos. Does choosing primary audio driver affect my sound quality? if so, I would like to choose audient usb audio asio driver but how can I solve this no-sound problem on other applications? thx in advance.

Plugging a jack into the Headphone output will automatically mute the speaker outputs on the EVO to allow for more accurate headphone monitoring. It isn't possible to change this behaviour on the EVO 4.

I just ordered one, but i haven't gotten it yet... Should be in Tuesday. One question... When recording guitar, and mic'ing up my cab with an SM57, can I use an XLR to 1/4" cable to run/power the mic through the instrument input, and will it record the sound properly that way, or do I need to run an XLR to XLR and run the mic to the XLR input 1 in the back of the unit? Or can it do either/both? Thanks!
@weareevoaudio
@weareevoaudio 3 жыл бұрын
To get the best sound and signal level from your SM57, we'd reccomend using an XLR to XLR cable and connecting it to Mic input on the rear. It can be connected to the Line input or the instrument input if you've only got a 1/4" cable to hand but it may not sound as good.

Can it provide sufficient gain to an sm57 for recording vocals or guitars? (Would the smart gain work well even with a quieter dynamic mic like sm57 for recording vocals and guitars?)
@weareevoaudio
@weareevoaudio 2 жыл бұрын
The EVO should have more than enough gain for an SM57 in most recording situations but it does depend on the volume of the sound source. Smart gain will still work with the SM57 provided theres enough input signal.

I want to record electric guitar and bass guitar simultaneously the evo 4 audio interface but there is only one instrument input. Can I plug either my bass guitar or guitar into the mic inputs on the back. I am using a line 6 helix multi-effects processor which has amp simulators built into it. The processor also amplifies my signal. The processor has outputs that I can make either line or instrument out puts. If i set either my guitar or bass guitar to come out as a line output could I then plug the signal into the back mic inputs without any problems, loss of tone, unwanted clipping or distortion,.... ect...???? If I do should I use balanced XLR cables or would regular Balanced cables work fine? thank you
@weareevoaudio
@weareevoaudio 4 жыл бұрын
You can certainly connect the Helix up to the Line inputs on the rear of the EVO. To record both the bass and guitar at the same time time, you'd have the bass connected to the instrument port on the front and the Helix conencted to Line input two. To connect the Helix, you can use either 1/4" TRS or XLR cables

Just bought this and I was hoping your video would shed some light on your user guide. The hardware features are very obvious, but the software is obscure to me. I got this for podcasting but I can't figure out how to set it up at all. I followed the instructions in your guide, but the "Loop-back Send" setup in your EVO software is not recognized by GarageBand. I'm not able to hear my computer audio through your device, can't hear Skype. Is "Loop-back" actually a reference to the Rogue Amoeba software that's also called "Loopback"? [UPDATE] Thanks for your response. I did get help from your support staff. Seems like this is a more successful setup if you use an DAW like Reaper (which recognizes the Loop-back configuration) rather than GarageBand (which I was using previously, and it did not "see" the Loop-back options).

If the Smartgain button flashes red, this indicates there was not enough signal level for Smartgain to work correctly. I'd try moving the microphone closer to the sound source if possible or otherwise experimenting with mic positioning. Ohterwise, you can manually increase the gain by pressing either the 1 or 2 button and turning the control knob clockwise.

USB A to USB C connects the computer to the EVO? If you plug speakers in is no amp required? if not the the cable you need is double jack to double banana plug? The monitors will always mute when the headphone is connected and it's not possible to override this on the EVO 4. If you need to monitor though both headphones and monitors' I'd reccomend looking at the EVO 8 or the iD range.

If your microphone has an USB connection only, then it cannot be connected to the EVO 4. On macOS you may be able to combine the EVO and the Mic as an aggregate device to use the EVO for monitoring, although using an XLR mic would be the best option.

You can use the EVO 4 to connect an XLR mic to your PC. You would simply connect the EVO to your PC using a USB cable You'd then connect the Microphone to the first XLR input on the EVO. You would then select the EVO as your audio device on your PC. To get the correct input level, you can just use the Smartgain function which allows you to get the perfect recording level every time.

@weareevoaudio

You sure can! You'd just need to connect the two inputs up to the EVO using the Mic/Line inputs or the instrument input. Then make two tracks in your DAW of choice, taking signal from Inputs 1 and 2. Hot record and you'll be able to record the two signals at the same time.

On EVO 4, the monitors are Muted when you connect headphones. If you need a setup with headphone outputs for a vocal booth then the upcoming EVO 8 would be ideal as it has independent headphone and monitor outputs. This allows you have a separate artist mix while you monitor in a control room.
