Thanks for the help. I have a Dillon Mk.III and I just bought a set of four tips for it. I bought this torch some time ago, but quickly dismissed it as awkward and too heavy. Anyway, I've been having some trouble welding a 1/2" thick doughnut shaped puck, made out of scrap off the floor (think it's 4130) on to some pretty awful looking 304 exhaust tube. I've cleaned it up to a 80 grit clean finish inside and out, about 1/8" wall after cleaning. Now I'm going to try my new tips that I just received. I couldn't even make a puddle with my old, but loved, Victor 315FC with a #5 tip. The voice of this flame at 4 p.s.i. is a little bit frightening, but I'm going after it anyway; this is for my dog car and it must work to take them swimming. I'll be back in a moment to let you know how it worked.

I can't find who sent this video to me but I think that this will fix the problem I have been having. I am not home right now but I will give it a try and it is a little different than what I have been doing and I think I can now get this proceedure to work for me...... I hope to be a welding animal in a few days. Thank you thank you thank you

Well this is more than a little late, as it turned out I was able to tac my project with both torches, still greater comfort with the Victor; but this turned out to be a job for the tig torch. I feel like such a wimp, but I just couldn’t risk ruining this expensive exhaust tube, as ugly as it was. Turns out the doughnut was mild steel and the tig torch was able to puddle that 1/2” much more easily with out that queasy feeling that I was about to blow holes in the relatively thin tube.

Is that 720 degrees on the torch valves or just 360 degrees? I'm definitely not getting a sharp and quiet neutral flame like you are at 720 degrees. I'll try 360 degrees on the torch valves.

Wow, I did not like that. It seems that 360 degrees on the torch valves is even worse, louder and not even remotely sharp at all. I'm quitting for now. Maybe I'll give this torch another try tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll have much patients for it.
