Thank you! This was the best explanation I have found anywhere. I think where I have gone wrong before was not understanding the difference between speed on the foot petal and speed with the movement of the hands. Can’t wait to give it another go and Inlove your work!

Thank you so much for this tutorial which I just found. I have just got a Janome DC2150 machine to learn how to do free motion embroidery. I don't normally sew so this is all a big learning experience for me. The lady in the shop said I should be using the Stop/Start button so I don't use the foot pedal and I tried that but found it too hard to stop quickly so glad I see you use the pedal. Just wondering what tension the machine should be on? I have some fusible interfacing which seems very thin but not sure if that's the correct backing as I want to make brooches? Thanks again from Australia.

Maybe the Janome website for your region/country will have that information? The actual Janome retailer I bought mine from has that kind of information on their website; or perhaps you could call a local Janome retailer in your area and ask them?

Hi Alison, I also have a Janome machine and was wondering if I need a low shank or high shank open toe darning foot?
@Kayenne54 Жыл бұрын
I'm a newbie, but from what I can gather, from my own country/region Janome retailer website, they will have that information. You can also look up Janome online, and pick your region from their map on that international site, and narrow it down to somewhere closer to you. Get all your model number of machine and type etc. and perhaps give them a call? (a retailer of Janome in your own region, I mean). Let them know if it's a mechanical sewing machine or one with an onboard computer, and so on. Once you have that information, they'll be able to tell you if it's a low shank or high shank. There's even instruction booklets online for various sewing machines which could also tell you, if you don't have the booklet to refer to.

Do you thread the top thread just the same as normal sewing? I only have a basic brother LS14. Dont think i can adjust tension on there. Thanks for video
@alisonwhateleydesign5029 ай бұрын
Yes just thread it up as normal. You can't alter the top tension on some basic machine, so just see how you get on.

Hi! How does this model handle stretch fabrics? I currently have a different sewing machine and it's hopeless. It skips stitches like mad. A seller is currently offering this janome model, but when they present it they use non stretch cotton.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I can't really comment as I don't use stretch fabrics. All I can say is that I am very happy with it's performance when creating my artwork.

Should we be using an embroidery hoop?
@alisonwhateleydesign5022 жыл бұрын
Many people do, but I prefer not to as I find it too restrictive. I use a fine firm backing fabric which means that I don't get a problem with the fabric puckering.

@alisonwhateleydesign502 Жыл бұрын
There is no reason as far as i know why it shouldn't work. it may be something that you are doing wrong or you may have a fault with you machine , but it is very difficult to advise you when I can't see it myself. I would suggest taking it to your nearest sewing machine shop so gthat they can that a look at it for you. Sorry i can't be any more help. Bets wishes. Alison

What am I doing wrong when the thread on the back of the quilt makes a bunch of loopy tangles ?
@alisonwhateleydesign5029 ай бұрын
make sure you are bringing up your bobbin thread before you start sewing as this can cause bunching of the thread underneath. The other thing it may be is if your top tension is too low, so it's worth checking that as well.
@amandawalker3111 Жыл бұрын
I've been told to use a bobbin case with blue dot for free motion I have the janome atelier 6 is this right if not what is it for as I brought one for this
@alisonwhateleydesign502 Жыл бұрын
To be honest I just use my normal bobbin case and I don't have any problems. The blue dot bobbin case is designed for free motion quilting as the tension is about 40% lower and helps to give better stitches on the underside. As you have it, you may like to try it, but as I say,I don't use one. Hope this helps.

I have loads of thread at the back of my work
@alisonwhateleydesign5023 жыл бұрын
that may mean the tension isn't right. Also check that your machine is threaded up correctly and the bobbin is in place correctly too. This happens to me sometimes and even though I can't see a problem I rethread my machine and bobbin and it usually rights itself then.
