How To Setup a Cheap Quarantine Tank

In this video, I'll show you how I set up my new Quarantine tank. For years I've made up excuses as to why I "can't" quarantine my fish. "I haven't got a spare tank" "I don't have space" the list goes on.
This plastic storage tub is cheap, simple, and shows that when we say we can't quarantine, it's more likely that we are super excited about our new purchases and we don't want to wait to add them to our aquariums (come on you know it's true)

Great video. You nailed it. It’s not so expensive to set up a quarantine tank. We all have spare parts if you been in the Bobby for a while. If not it’s a good way to start the hobby on the right foot

Great simple setup! I will be using this approach. Rock and sand arrive Tuesday and I will FINALLY begin my first tank build. I do have a question that seems wasn't answered here; Did you do half water from fresh mixed water and half from your DT? You mention how it is basically the same water as they were in when in the DT so it has me thinking adding half would be good for the fish... so as not to shock/stress them too much. Please advise what is a good idea/what you did. Thanks!! Ps. I have enjoyed your videos for the last couple years since I discovered your channel.

If I don’t have enough water from my display tank can I just use partial from my tank and mix the rest just fresh salt mix.

I’ve been into the saltwater hobby for six years I started quarantine last year wish I would’ve started sooner I have 13 fish in my hundred gallon tank 10 that I quarantined and the other three i had between one and five years sad to see the wife go but I’ll be awesome to see your new set up to

Awesome idea of plastic tub for qt tank. One tip for people that may do this in the future. Don’t lay the heater directly on the plastic it could lead to melting the tub. But definitely another great video may have to use this qt idea.

Love the new video Michael, I feel you should have touched upon equipment usage after quarantine if using copper and how it can't be re-used. You mentioned using a maxspect bio block in the quarantine as biological filtration but didn't mention that after treating with copper it can't then be used in a display environment. Some viewers may not know this. Other than that awesome video and yes a real inspiration as most of us do make excuses and pay the price later :(

Hi.i dont think you will see this but i have a marine tank set up with dry rock and sand and did a water test and my nitrate was 75 and my nitrite was 3.5 my tank has been running for 2 weeks and busy doing a 20% water change can you give me any advice on what i should do

So I have a 54L tank with fish and a 25L that's going to be just plants, if I was to buy some new fish for my 54L could I put my Betta in the 25L planted aquarium temporarily like as Quaratine tank so the new fish can settle in the new tank?

I like this simple and cheap setup. I do wonder how hard it will be to monitor the fish when it's not a glass container, can you see through the side of the box clearly?

Exciting times ahead, I agree do not medicate unless needed copper is toxic to all marine life even fish at high levels with lasting effects even at lower levels.It will also certainly suppress their immune systems so often you see fish relapse after being added to a established system. Prevention is better that cure so quarantine quarantine quarantine. Would it not be great if LFS could quarantine before selling?

This is the first of your videos I've watched. At 10:22 I noticed in your saltwater aquarium your fish appear to be swimming quite vigorously against the current. Is this normal and healthy for them? Personally I'd need a rest, so as a fish I guess I'd end up either flattened against the side of the aquarium or free-swirling around it, which would leave me at risk for getting my fins torn on the rock and coral. I've just never seen that before, stresses me out just watching them.

We make them boxes where I work they are called really useful boxes the police buy loads of us for Evidence boxes I’ve used them as cricket breeding boxes they are bang on 👍🏻

I have the ability to run a quarantine tank, just don't like the idea of having it all the time. Would it be ok to set up a tank in similar fashion to you a couple of days before getting fish then when the qt period is finished move the fish and put the tank away?

Firstly what if ur new fish get lowered immune system then a parasitic or bacterial infection from being in quarantine too long?

What's up man. Love your videos and tutorials. One question for you. I'm starting my first saltwater tank 55 gallon. I'm doing dry rock do you need to cure the rock and how would you do it??? I've looked through your videos to find the answer but I am not seeing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for sharing your videos

QT is the only way to go. When you lose some much money on fish. Either do it right or people will leave the hobby. The real reefer will QT if he does want a parasite or diease in his tank. Wanted to see the wife tank mature with coral.

Man i just had velvet nuke my whole damn tank..... lost my pair of mocha storm clowns, diamond goby, 2 anthias and 6 line wrasse. Im about to quit this damn hobby... i dont even know where the hell it came from.
