How To Setup a Saltwater Reef Rank - Red Sea Max Nano Setup

Owning your own Saltwater reef tank is an exciting way to being a chunk of ocean into your home. Starting out with an all in one kit such as the Red Sea Max Nano is an easy way to get started as it comes with the Tank, Stand, Pumps, Filters and Lights! The only additional things i had to add was a heater, sand rock and of course livestock!

Thanks DC! I love that goby but he is very elusive, he hides most of the time and i just see his little crazy fins in the shadows. hopefully, he gains come confidence and ventures out more!

Hi, do you think, externally mixed, kalkwasser would eventually block the ATO on the RSM nano, I ask as I have the same tank and was thinking of dosing via it? Great video as ever and I'm looking forward to following the progression. Ps. You might want to take the sponge out of the return chamber as it's a huge detritus trap👍🇬🇧

Recording 32 decibels just downloaded an app to test, well happy now if you get chance see what you read with your original set up as a comparison please cheers jeff

Hey how are you? I just purchased this same tank and the skimmer is so stressing, everything works perfect except the skimmer. The skimmer is releasing micro bubbles inside the tank. I followed all the instructions and it’s still the same

Hi RD just an up date the tunze skimmer is now super quiet now it's bedded in but my circulation pump has gone down the same route so got rid of it the problem is the pump is to big to fit in the 80x80 MM pump chamber it was touching the glass and vibrating so my fix is a Ehime pro 4 250 cartridge filter pumping 950 l/hour this thing is silent housed in the cupboard, also upgraded to a tunze nano ATO that will give me a lot less topping up to do. Perfect for me now cheers

I wouldn’t say it’s noisy but it’s not silent either. I hear a low hum from 5-6’ Away. I have also found the closing the air valve more and making it have a dryer skim really helped to tone down the noise

Hello, very nice Video, thank you very much. I saw that you didnt use the included outlet for the flow pump. I assume you switched the piece to reduce the strong current of the more focused outlet? I get a slight hum from the return pump and now on my second pump on the skimmer both sound as if they are vibrating the cable out of the skimmer pump hits the skimmer case so the pump doesn't sit correctly, at present talking to redsea

Hey Jeff so far so good on mine. I have read a few people talking about skimmer noise.. It may just be playing with it so its not hitting the edge? not too sure. i get a slight hum form it but nothing too loud.

That would depend on where you live, if its a cooler climate then yes... in some hotter areas you need to worry about cooling it down. I generally recommend keeping a marine tank at 78-80

Ok will do had a look at the tunze 9001 but it's 63 MM across about 7 MM too wide. Got more info today, RS have said the unit is too big in terms of performance and needs the air shutting right down and the weir adjusted so that the water level is as high as it can to stop the unit floating about. The pump should fit right up so the pump is clear of the bottom which it doesn't because the diameter of the pump is 25 MM and the hole in the skimmer is 23 MM, the cable comes out of the pump directly into the skimmer case preventing it from being vertical, I have put a tie wrap round it to keep it square but that puts pressure on the cable so there's a failure point. Just have to wait and see. Cheers

Any issues with the return pump noise? Mine is very noisy. Feel like I’ve tried everything. Added a silicone mat around the pump to keep from vibrating too much. Red Sea has sent me 2 extra pumps. No luck.

Return pump is very quiet. If its vibrating make sure its not touching the glass.. and it should be 90 degrees to the return nozel if its angled it will hit the glass and make noise

Question brother. Can you make a video for beginners on how to do maintenance on this specific tank? Im a newbie hobbyist and might get this tank but I have no idea how to clean skimmers and replace filters and things like that so it’d be great if I can learn how to do it specifically for this tank.

To start this tank off with, will you be doing Kalkwasser or will you dose calcium and alk. Im about restart a nano tank this same size and jsut dont know if I should start dosing out the gate or start with kalk and see how long to kalk can hold out.

If you have mainly soft corals you can get away with a weekly water change. I want to try the Red Sea program so I will be dosing. That being said adding kalk to your ato is the easiest way to start doing. You really do need o test your tank. Then wait 24h test again and see how much your Calcoum and all changes. If it’s minimal your safe, it’s a larger swing then you will want to start dosing

Yea seems a bit hit and miss some OK some not I might see how it goes with redsea failing that I might bin the skimmer for a tunze with a DC motor I will probably do the same with the circulation pump in time cheers for replying.

ReefDudes an up date I did the swap for the tunze 9001 skimmer not the DC I was advised by the supplier this model was quite enough and he was right at least a 50% decrease in noise and it needs 1-2 weeks to run in yet so well happy. It fits in the sump with about 2 MM space spare on width held by the magnet on the media wall the extension is needed (supplied) to clear the ATO. Now got more room for the heater. Next is to swap the gravity ATO for the tunze nano pumped top up. Cheers Jeff

Hey Mike, I used a box of this the liferock shapes geni.us/8P2nVWG I actually had 2 boxes to give my self-more variety work with.. I can attempt to see how much is left but i would say i used just over "half" of it to get my scape.

We can find it, but the price is very expensive, normaly the price in Brazil is multiplhy for 5. Normaly the people use (plug and play) the mark Boyu. This Nano is my dream :(:(
