So, I just got this keyboard today and it was driving me nuts to play some simple VST's . The key is to turn off local and not the speakers.. midi under menu settings ...then first tab under system...I turn all local song, style, left, main, and layer off. .Also once local is set to off, you can save a preset under user (tab over)..in midi off shift tab to user and then hit save...an option will allow you to name it..I just deleted the "off" and renamed it " MIDI On...now all I need to do is go to my user preset and it loads it up whenever it is needed. I agree the manual is complete garbage. I hope this helps.

The midi settings can actually be saved but Yamaha didn't make it intuitive. You selected the midi profile under Preset and edited it. Instead, tab to the right to go under User. Hit Edit to make the changes you desire and then Exit out. That will bring you back to the User midi profiles (which should be blank at this time). Select Save to save the edits you made under a profile name. That's it. You can create more profiles as needed depending on your use cases. Since they're saved in the User space, they'll survive reboots.

For example, a base note played in a style I want to send it to DAW to play the tone on Spectrasonic instruments, and I want to immediately do multi-track recording as DAW, and I want to send the media generated by each channel (style channel on the keyboard) to the virtual instrument for playback

I do have the DGX670 and I just bought the Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen but because it didnt have enough inputs for Instruments I changed to the Scarlett 4i4 , in the front I put in the microphone and at the back I use the line inputs to record my DGX670 but it doesn't work yet with a jack male 2x stereo jack male cable, I'll have to figure it out. Also I have midi ports on the 4i4, may I ask how you connect your DGX 670 with your Scarlett interface and which cable you use ?

Hey. Native Instruments has couple of different KOMPLETE KONTROL keyboards and also they make there own softwere. KOMPLETE 14 is there flagship collection of instruments, samples,the cost of the software runs close to 2 grand. one can make movie sound tracks with it. pretty impressive. I would like to just get the software.

Thanks for your informative tutorial. I managed to save my MIDI OFF by selecting it and turning on channel 1 and then saving that selection to USB FLASH DRIVE which I load on my next power on. I use Cakewalk by Bandlab as my DAW and I am able to record my Grand Piano as an Audio Track and play it back but if I select instrument Labs Soft Piano and try to record it I am unable to do so and only hear my Grand Piano voice while playing and not my Soft Piano vst plug in and no recording takes place. I cannot figure out what settings I'm missing or how to turn ON or OFF Keyboard Out or Loopback on the DGX670 thus your help would be greatly appreciated.

I also use this function with Cakewalk. Did you notice that the audio output of the piano presents noise with the usb cable connected? It bothers me a little

So, how do I hook all this up? How do I hook up the DGX to a Korg PA4X or hook up to a Roland JV-1010 and use those sounds. There are no midi ports on the DGX 670 (which I love but cannot figure out).

There is a SAVE button one menu over the midi settings. Have you tried to use it?

Hi. Does anyone know if you can connect the DGX670 directly to a psr sx900. I want to use the 88 keys put play through the 900. Not worried about other stuff, just to replace the 61 keyboard really.

So when I do this it just turns my piano into a speaker. So anything I play on my computer doesent come out of my computer but out of the speaker if the piano. I'm using a chromebook and I'm using a c-port on the end.

I'm zero in music. I'm interested to start music with this yamaha. I was asking myself a similar question: should i have to buy a master beyboard anyway, like STUDIOLOGIC SL88 STUDIO. Something you seem to call midi controller. Google founded your video. I must ask you one thing : why you did not try the 'master KBD' option in midi settings ? It sounds exactly like : it should behaves as a master midi keyboard. No ? Midi settings + master kbd = midi master keyboard. If it works. The second question is : can DGX670 be a DAW controller, not only the keyboard. It is a standalone studio. All these buttons and controls could be mapped for DAW software?

I don't understand the problem, in my case I just plugged it in and Reaper recognized it immediately as a midi device, didn't have to adjust anything on the keyboard midi menu for it to work

I'm trying to do this with a YAMAHA DGX-520,which I got for a song because the screen was dead. I figured it would just output midi like every other keyboard but NOPE! Anyone with my keyboard know how to guide me like a blind man to midi out on my screenless keyboard? PLEEEEAZE?

Midi looks a real pain in the arse on this keyboard. I hate faffing around having to reset things because the keyboard won't store changes. They should either have it save changes and include a reset setting. Or put proper midi connections on the keyboard. I have a 20 year old keyboard with proper midi in out. You just select the instrument in logic and the keyboard controls it. You don't have to set up anything. If I want the natural sounds from the keyboard I just use line out. Don't know why Yamaha had to go usb route which means you have to go through menu's and setups that won't even save on the keyboard. The keyboard itself is great and you wont find a better deal for sounds at this price, but for midi as with all Yamaha keyboards, its is a deal breaker for me personally. Korg and Kawai have proper midi connections with no faffing around.
