Me too! Even the visuals in my sewing machine handbook did not make sense after going over them a dozen times. It was the part where she flips both "wrong" sides of the fabric to have that little part of the hem under the foot that was the part I missed. Epiphany!

Thank you for showing me this. In the future would like to do a clothing project (corset) and on the bottom of the piece of clothing, I would need to hide and secure the fabric over the shaping corset. Also...makes me wonder, but I guess I have been doing my hems all wrong all these years! but still...they've worked an nobody has noticed nor said anything with the way I've sewn things in the past.

Needlepointers Hello! I would measure my new pants to my leg/end of foot. cut off the extra and leave about 3 inches so I could fold it up and cut up excess. Fold the extra bottom fabric inward and then bend the fabric outward and sew it on the edge. That little weight would leave like a crisp line, but little weight so the pants would hang nicely onto my shoe. I would leave myself extra because I was younger (earlier 20s) and was still growing in case I wanted to adjust for later.

I absolutely love your tutorial. I'm working on my first blind hem on my pants I wear in the office. That said, how much slack would you recommend for a typical hem on these type of pants? I figured I wanted a 1 inch hem but I find it a little hard to work with and I've ended up with about 1/2 inch hem. I don't really like the look.

hmmm my blind hem foot has a plastic and doesn’t look like this and 2) should the needle position be in line with that guide you referred to. O g have a brother cs6000i and a babylock jubilant and I think i have a knockoff blind hem foot. i’ve had no luck with the zig zag foot either. the stitches are not uniform when it catches the fabric, it catches too much making the stitch very visible or it doesn’t catch it at all. the foot that i have is metal with a triangular shaped plastic guide that can be loosened and tightened.
@Needlepointers
@Needlepointers 3 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching our video. I looked up and think I found what your foot looks like. It looks like you would use it similarly but you don't have the extra metal part near the needle. It may be harder to get the fabric to feed through correctly with this foot and get an even stitch but you can get it with practice. The foot we have has a small divot by the needle so the needle can be placed far enough over to catch the fabric. These blind hem stitches will show more on the front of the fabric than a hand stitched blind hem but if you use matching thread, it's not very noticeable. Happy Sewing!

Well... I went to the basement and got a tape measure out of the toolbox, managed to fold, pin and iron the one foot of curtain I want to remove from a six foot wide panel. Now, before I can even start sewing anything, how do I manage to cut those nice straight lines to get the excess down to those few inches I need left to hem?
@Needlepointers
@Needlepointers 4 жыл бұрын
If you have a rotary cutter, ruler and mat, this would be the best way to cut it down. Otherwise, I would make a line on the fabric where you want to cut it with a long ruler and then carefully cut it on the line. You could also make the line by ironing a crease where the line would be. Happy Sewing!
@sunnyladner

If you open it up, do you see the tiny stitches? If you can't open it, then you may have sewn the in between stitches on your hem. The catch stitch should be the only one that sews on the folded over fabric.
