In this video I go over how I sew two curved pieces of fabric for a nice crispy seam. This is especially helpful when putting together the Mountain Flyer DIY ultralight backpack patterns:

Here are the clips I mentioned in the video:

Really like the simple bit size videos you've been putting out. Curves can be a pain in the as if it's your first time sewing and can be really discouraging, so I'm sure I speak for many when I say thank you.

Every single tip you have me in this video was so helpful. I always have problem with the curves and I didn't even think to mark where the needle is. I am one of those that do not adjust where the needle is. This is amazing, please make more videos. Thanks Deanna

I have watched countless videos that ALWAYS sew 1 piece of fabric! You used 2 canvas pieces & it ended up perfect! I love how you cut the tape! 😂 Great hints! You rock!

Lining up edges first makes SO much more sense than struggling to align them after pinning the center!!! This is the best curved piecing tutorial out there.

Clips?!!!! Brilliant!! I have been avoiding revisiting sewing simply for the reason that pinning fabric was incredibly annoying, ineffective and painful. I randomly searched the words curvature sti- and stiches was a pre-searched option, lo’ and behold I found YoUr vid, NOW I feel excited to get out all my projects I shoved into the LATER pile and learn how to use the sewing machine I bought last year. Thank you! ...clips, not pins, clips... 💕

Good video, great explanations. It would be helpful to have a camera right at the needle as you sewed through the curve, showing exactly how you used use the tape guide.

So much easier! As you learn the feel you’ll be able to rely less and less on the “crutches” and just get after it! I do, to this day (as do factories), use the notches.

Very helpful for understanding the concept. How about staples or pins on the seam allowance? I'm thinking they wouldn't need to be removed until the whole seam is sewn. Have you had bad experience with those, leading to a preference for clips?

🐨If you put the bigger surface on the bottom ie larger curve the yellow one the feed dogs will take up the difference between them if you are careful when feeding it thought☺

Oh nooooooooo, there was a (video-) cut when you started sewing, and deducing from the seam already sewn, there was quite a lot of sewing going on between those (video-) cuts. What a pitty, that part would've been also very helpful. Namely: how do you start your seams. Next time :D Thanks for the good tutorial!

Best way to sew a curve, is to straight. You can also clip the curves close to the seams before sewing

Na. But I've been to plenty of knit manufacturers. Ideally you'd use a chainstitch so the stitch could stretch. But you could get away with a zig-zag stitch or a five thread serger (overlock).
