Just saw this on FB and thought of you and your cute aprons! The History of 'APRONS' I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and ...on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.. And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes. Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons. REMEMBER: Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...❤

Idea to make this even simpler and even more affordable: use old bedding or curtains for the fabric. Make sure to wash and iron them and only use the parts of the cloth that still look nice. That's what I'll be doing.

Enjoyed this video. My mom and I just made Christmas aprons for all us ladies that will be making Christmas dinner. It was so much fun. We used coordinating Christmas fabrics and a pattern we found at an estate sale. Now we are planning on making fall aprons. We will definitely use this tutorial for those aprons. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video! I just got an apron pattern and wanted to watch one being made so I don't misinterpret the pattern. It's my first one to do in over a decade - I haven't sewn anything since I was 11! But now my sister's finally learning to cook and baked us all bread and pies over the holidays, I thought a great birthday present would be an apron! So thanks a lot, she'll love it, and I'm sure I would have messed my pattern up if it weren't for your great instructions!

Rather than sewing the ties in place I would probably make them adjustable making a tunnel(?) at the shoulder holes. That way the apron can be lowered or raised relative to the neck as needed.

This is great! I haven't made aprons for all the girls in the family in about 7 years and now they are mostly high school age and college and what once fit doesn't anymore. They still try to get them on for cookie day however. LOL If you were to enlarge the size for a larger size how much would you add to your design? This is just perfect also for my abundance of overstock fabric! Have a blessed Christmas.......thank you for all you do and share with us. You are amazing!
