Thank you! This is the simplest version I have seen. Other videos have a lot of turning stuff inside out and it gets confusing. I'm glad that you mentioned the direction of the fabric stretch. That is helpful as well. I think I would probably pin the inside fabric out of the way to avoid accidentally sewing over it. I'd also consider using a serger for the edges. Any particular reason not to use a stretch stitch or zigzag stitch on this? Edit, from everything I've seen, its fine to use a stretch or zigzag stitch to let the fabric stretch better and to use 1/4" seam allowance instead of 1/2".

This is great!! I watched another video showing the same technique but that creator used black-on-black so it was really hard to see what they were describing. The clear lines and using a lighter fabric with clear right-side-wrong-side made this a breeze! I made two cuffs already from some scraps of legging fabric! Thank you so much!

Just to clarify: If I want the end part of the cuff above my thumb to be longer and extend down my fingers more, then the middle part would be marked longer, right?

May I ask what fabric you used and what type of stitch please.

She used a knit fabric and a straight stitch with, I believe, a 2.5 stitch length.

Would the process be different if one wanted to create a thumbhole on a continuous sleeve without wanting a cuff?

I am not familiar with a technique where you don't use the cuff; however, you may be able to do this by leaving a hole for your thumb in your sleeve seam. Honestly though, it could be a little messy. Maybe if you finished the edges with a tight satin stitch where your thumb would be...If you try it, I would love to see pictures! I assume the process would be similar but you would have to make it a LOT longer and make sure the longer edge is cut properly to fit on the bodice. It's more complicated. The benefit of doing a cuff is that you can rotate it so that the hole goes over your thumb rather than lining up with the sleeve seam. When it is lined up with the sleeve seam it can get a little awkward feeling trying to get it to fit comfortably. Of course you could always adjust your seam location to line up with the thumb, but then would have to make sure that they fit right with the arm-hole on the bodice. It would take some playing around with templates to find something that would fit properly. Now, if you want to hide where the cuff attaches you could sort of gather up the fabric on the sleeves to make a texture where the cuff is hidden in the folds. The gathers would be parallel to where the cuff attaches. I realize you're asking the OP, but I'm hoping this will be helpful.

Maybe a serged mini-rolled hem for the slit left in the sleeve seam?
