Thankyou both of you. You have helped so many people, me being one of them😁, throughout these difficult times. I have bought a few of your books over the recent weeks and so far I have made 3 lovely quilts. 12 gorgeous birds and 6 lovely ideas books, all with the help of my 7 year old granddaughter 😁 She made a lovely cookbook and is busy filling it with recipes😂 then we made grandad a bird 🦅 book to record his sightings when he goes birdwatching. We’ve been so busy thanks to both of you we have hardly had a moment to be ‘bored’. Keep well both of you and keep up the good work. Love you both 💜🌷💚

That's the rule: fabric scissors for fabric ONLY! Love the envelope corner. Thank you! Summer going well? Good to see you two today. Most of our measuring instruments have both metric and "inches " marked and the children in the USA are much more comfortable with metric than their grandparents.

To echo what others have said -- knit and/or crochet needle cases are always useful - as are project bags (zip, drawstring, or bento closure). I have to admit though, I'm a bit addicted to project bags, both making my own and buying from others, so I have trouble being objective. Thanks, gentlemen! You always bring a smile and great ideas to the table. Hugs from Maine...

Gentlemen for the scissors make a leather case using the paper one as a template. Safer to travel with and store. I have a sewing only scissors that is in it’s own little case and my family knows do not touch. Separate scissors for paper have colorful handles. As far as converting from metric to inches I am using your instructions with metric that helps me understand metric. So it is a good thing to learn something new. I do love the red fabrics that Arne showed. Would be nice for an everyday December winter time placemat. Those are sharp scissors! Like cutting into butter. I agree the ironing should not be overlooked.

I love your fabrics! I like to rip, or tear, fabric - you know the fabric is straight when you tear. But it does make rough edges. I think I would made a double sided placemat. Sometimes my guests (ahem!) spill food on my placemats. Most rulers and tape measures in the U.S. have both inches and metric. New, sharp scissors are a joy - you can cut all the way to the tip!

The placemats are gorgeous. When you were adding the muslin backing, I was thinking the mats might be made reversible and get double the usage out of them. Thanks for sharing the tips for making the corners. Have a great week and stay safe.

Thank you, I enjoy knitting and crochet but I LOVE to sew. Clothes, quilts, place mats, anything really so I enjoyed this. I use chopsticks on my corners to push them out. I used to own a fabric store and ripped a lot but there is a sound that really good, sharp scissors make and I could hear it with that pair..lol Do you ever pre-wash your fabrics so the shrinkage is already accounted for ? This was also a really pretty video to watch, not sure if it was the lighting or the room but very nice. Hope you are continuing to feel better, enjoy your week !!

Barb Smith. My mother and grandmother were both excellent seamstresses, and my grandmother sewed professionally. I regret not having the patience to continue on with sewing after having had a few rudimentary lessons in junior high home economics class. My mother was certainly willing to teach me from that point forward, but I just knew I wasn't cut out for sewing (pardon the pun). But it amazes me that I do still remember those few basics learned from my home economics teacher. From that, my question for you concerns what my teacher called "pulling a thread". That involved pulling a thread out of the length or width of the fabric, depending on the direction you were cutting, so that you would have that narrow open path to follow in order to cut a perfectly straight edge. Is that still a common practice in sewing? Thank you.

I love the fabric, gorgeous. Snow in the background made me realise it was way before all happened. I promised t o make the chair covers for my sons car. I'm fond of sewing. It's a craft eh ;>D Argh, sewing scissors used unauthorised. My kids used it to cut paper, surprised I was angry. And I never ever iron. Youth trauma, refuse it now. And dresses, yes!

Very informative! We were taught in sewing class in high school that when you buy cotton from fabric stores the end should be ripped. I was also taught when you sewed around the edge you should do it on the right side! I much prefer your suggestion of sewing on the back. I will definitely following your instructions in future. Here in Canada we use Metric; however, because we get many of our patterns from the USA we also have to know the Imperial method. I recently bought one of your crochet patterns and was disappointed to see that you used the American crochet instructions. I learned to crochet the English way. However, I picked it up quickly. Love your podcasts. Say hi to Freya for me. Our dog likes to bark at the bears to keep them away. We don’t often have moose wander onto our property.

Just watched your instruction. Those corners are neat. And making it first in paper is such a good idea! The last few weeks I have sewn Barbie doll clothes for my granddaughter all by hand, because for such small sizes it is not worth getting the sewing machine on the table. I would like to make a pillowcase for small pillows if possible. Due to our age we bought special kind of pillows for our heads on our bed. When you buy duvetcovers those come with one size pillowcases. They never fit our special pillows. But I am sadly to inexperienced to adapt a pattern. Wouldn't know how to do that. Just started to do more sewing after about 38 years just using the machine for little jobs like patching or shortening trousers. Thanks very much.
