How to sew Pockets into a skirt or dress

My favorite types of skirts are those with pockets! Cause then I have a place to hold all my stuff and to rest my hands. And it's super easy to add pockets to a variety of dresses and skirts. I'll show you how! Come watch.

I know that I'm 5 months late, and I've been subscribed to you, but this is the best explained video of how to make and insert pockets. I'm a beginner and have watched several videos which is how I learned how to sew, but all the other videos are either too fast in their tutorials or they don't explain enough. This is how i always sew it. I have been searching for different vids today and they are maybe more professional, but also unnecessary at some times. If you iron your stuff, it looks indeed very nice and professional too! I sometimes make a little stitch on the good sides after step 1 as well, so the pocket stays nice inside. This is what the ironing part should do, but ofcourse a stitch stays better in its place :)

Dana I just want to say you're a wonderful teacher and I really enjoy your videos. For me personally I prefer to sew the pocket pieces together first and after my skirt or dress is sewn I leave an opening in the seams and insert the pockets after.

Thank you so much for your video. I bought a skirt for $2 because the fabric was beautiful but it was tight at the waist. Though very very long, I could make a cute skirt for myself. The Pockets were sewn into the waistband so I moved them down. I forgot how to sew the pockets back in and I did it backwards 2 times. You know how frustrating it is ripping something out. So you saved the day with your video and now I have a really cute skirt that I only paid $2 for. Thank you again!

I tend not to wear skirts (as I'm a guy) but I do sew my casual shorts, and I tried this method to add pockets to my shorts. It was so easy. I even unpicked some existing shorts side seams and added pockets to my existing shorts. Great tutorial.
