Sharpening a knife "old school" with a stone is easier than you think and will get you great results. You just need to follow a few basic guidelines, and you'll have razor sharp edges in no time.

For me, the ideas in kzfaq.infoUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

Good information. My Grandad taught me how to sharpen a knife on a stone when I was a kid but we only ever used either a bit of spit or a bit of water. Oil makes so much more sense. I had no idea about using a strop. I will have to look into making or buying one. Many of my knives could do with a good sharpen.

I love that you use an old imperial. They're cheap, easy to sharpen and work like a charm. I've been watching your channel a long time now and have come to learn and a lot about cabin building and home steading which is my end goal after the military. If you'd like to reach out to me, I'll send you and brooke each a new pocket knife. Not that you need them with such timeless classics but if you do they're here for the taking

Excellent video, and very handy for those new to sharpening, and even those that arent new can pick up tricks. I know i did with the valve compound! One thing ill sometimes do is with a multiblade pocket knife, usually my stockman knives, ill have different angles on different blades. The clip and sheepsfoot are average utility angles, 20° or so. Not sure since i eyeball it. But the spey or penblade, depending on knife, are at a much finer angle, for almost surgical cutting ability.

Hey, Dave I’m a fanatic with sharpening and I just want to say that your way is a good well thought out common sense approach. Very simple and effective. I especially like that you advocate low angle stropping as stropping will always increase the apex angle if you strop at the same angle as grinding on the stone. Glad to see your channel has grown so much over the years.
