I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

the drill doctor will do split point drills and I believe masonry tips as well, you could try running some wax on the flutes of the drills to see if that helps clear the chips

We had an ICL SYSTEM 10 then upgraded to an ICL SYSTEM 25. It was so "good" the Company bought ANOTHER one and they were linked "back to back". I am LMAO just telling you this because you now have some idea of how old I am :) Cheers.

There are always experts who can hand sharpen a twist drill to perfection, in the dark and under water. But for the rest of us for whom doing the actual job is enough, these cheap sharpeners are worth the money and allow a novice to sharpen a drill which will cut steel. As for disposing throwing the drill away when it's blunt, that's really so yesterday....

Early on in the video I saw that the bits didn't have any cross bridge in tjhe center, and the grind went over onto the other flute. Yeah, it will drill soft wood. The only reason I'm looking at these vids is because my eyes need reading glasses and strong light to hand sharpen. I can beat this thing even without them.

At the point where you said you have no idea what you are doing it is obvious that there is a missing piece of information. I suspect that there is a reason why the plastic surface with the drill holes in it is helical. Could it be that the surface is positioned so that the edge of the drill bit goes through the surface exactly one turn above the grind stone so you can then determine where you are on the grindstone from where you are relative to the plastic surface. The FW typed manufacturers instructions make no mention of the role of the helical surface at all! Perhaps that just goes to prove that we are recently evolved. If there is anyone out there who really understands how this thing works please do us all a favour and tell us.

That style of cheap "drill sharpener" is a complete waste of money. You might be able to push your way through a block of softwood after you have "sharpened" your drill bits with that thing - but you wouldn't have a hope in hell of drilling through a bit of steel. You would be far better served watching a couple of decent U tube clips on hand sharpening drill bits (there's plenty of good ones on here) and teaching yourself how to hand sharpen your drill bits. I know that I could run rings around that piece of plastic rubbish (I have one in the shed but refuse to use it) simply sharpening my bits by hand on the bench grinder.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 7 жыл бұрын
+BM Australia I must disagree, it's not a total waste! My drill bits did become way better then before. And I would highly recommend getting one of these... plastic sharpers, instead of throwing out your old doll drill bits. I have tried hand sharpening,, it sounds a lot easier, then what you will end up with the many first times. It does require quite a bit of patience and patience! Ohh yarh and good more expensive tools to do that. And then you can become better then the cheap rubbish plastic drill bit sharpener. Maybe. But you will still need it, to se if you really beat it;-)

It has nothing to do with hate. It is just a bad tool for the job, i also tried it. If you think it works well it only shows that you dont know how it should be. Yes if you dont know crap and just want to punch some randome sized holes in cheap materials this jig is perfect for the task.
@kermets
@kermets 6 жыл бұрын
Even if it was a rubbish tool Id say you are not even using it correctly by holding drill bit in one place, you would need to rotate it for it to sharpen evenly around the tip...... then trailing edge needs more metal removed so the cutting edge touches first, i dont know the tech name for the drill parts. please test on mild steel not soft wood....
