Thank you so much. That was very useful. I grind all of my own mince and make my own sausages, pate etc. I feel that my mince has become a bit mushy recently and had been wondering how to sharpen my grinder. I had not thought about the plate. Grinding means that I can control the fat content and the quality of the meat. I prefer the grind to be coarser (unless the mix needs to be a paste like consistency) than the mince that you buy in the shops.

Thanks for the video, but I have a dumb question: why does the round flat plate with the holes need to be "sharpened" ??

PEOPLE! 100 grit is way too rough to be using on grinder plates! The huge scratches it leaves behind are clearly visible in the video. In order to get the plate sharp, ALL those scratches will need to be removed with successive grits. Further, jumping from 100 to 240 is too big a jump in grit. It will require WAY more than 10 loops with the 240 paper to remove the 100 grit scratches. You should be starting with 240 or 220, and working up to 320 or 400...or even higher if you wish. ALL the sanding should be done wet. Put a few drops of water on the paper and get to it. Rinse the paper and the steel after each step. These are basic, widely accepted rules of metal work.
