4 low doesn’t give you more traction it just gives you more torque. It’s actually worse in snow because you can’t get momentum without revving the crap out of your engine.
@OldManGripStrength5 жыл бұрын
Ryan Ryan Yeah I always found 4 high to be better in snow, only time I ever needed to use 4 low was a couple of times when towing off road.

You don't use 4 low in snow; you use 4 high. I used to have a Jeep Wrangler with a similar setup for 4WD, and my when my dad was explaining to me how to drive it in snow, he told me you use 4 high. 4 low will not allow your car to go up to the speed that you typically drive at on a road during snowy weather.

Does the car roll away if you are in Park, but the `wheel drive stick` is accidentally left in the N position? Can you still take your keys off? Can the stick be moved without the keys in ignition and the brake pedal depressed?
@Dylan_Sterling6 жыл бұрын
Gabriele De Mattia Yeah, if you accidentally leave the selector in Neutral, the car will roll away in park, because your transfer case has disconnected the drivetrain from the transmission. It can be moved when the vehicle isn’t in gear. Happened to me once when I was with my friend, and I hopped in my 4Runner, and turned on the car, and disengaged the Parking Brake and began to roll back, even though I was in Park.

HELP !!!! Can someone point me in the right direction in resolving my 98 4Runner issue? When I engage 4H it goes in silent but when it goes back to 2H (disengage) the is a loud bang (like a sled hammer bang). The is a delay for about 30 second to disengage as I drive down the road. My other 4Runner does a loud click only. I don't know the history on the car but I have changed all the oil already.

@cj1000xyu4 жыл бұрын
H2 for road use. H4 for snow. L4 for serious offroad 'crawling', moving overladen trailers on farms, etc. You should also, if you use it mainly on road, as a daily driver and don't take it offroad for months at a time, every couple of months, put in H4 for ~10 miles to give all the 4x4 components a good workout. They can seize etc. if you don't use them for months at a time and even if it works, when you next use them, you'll wear them unnecessarily.

You have two different H4's. The button on the side of the stick puts you in 4-wheel high without the hubs locked in (green light will be 4 green tires only). The H4 when you shift the lever will light up green 4 tires with yellow dot in the middle, means your hubs are locked in.

is 4L the same as 4x4?
@OmarMartinez-qj1us6 жыл бұрын
4x4 is a term that not always is used right... 4x4 is the system (transmission, differentials, etc) that enable full off-road capabilities... in an 4x4 vehicle you will have the options of 2H, 4H and 4L (the letters can appear before or after the number, is the same), 2H is like a normal vehicle, two tires get the power to move the vehicle, 4H you will have the power distributed on the 4 wheels, this is recommended on wet road, gravel or dirt. 4L still gives the power to the 4 wheels, but, give you more torque, this is, you sacrifice speed in order to get more "power", this is extremely useful when you have obstacles in the road (or you are in the wild with no road) like rocks or you are in the mud.
