I think it should be mentioned that you can use your own boxes or recycled boxes both for first class and for priority. We don't want the newbies to think that they have to use a priority box from USPS for anything over 1 lb when a recycled Amazon box will do just fine.

This is actually awesome to hear. I’m slowly preparing to start selling stuff on EBay and this would be more of a hobby/side gig (but who knows) and between my wife and mother-in-law we get 5-10 boxes shipped to our house a week. Most would be perfect for the few things I’ve already put to the side to start with. They even keep the plastic wrapping/bubble wrap/etc. so it’s good to know as long as I’m accurately measuring and weighing things my box situation is well covered for the time being.

I reuse Amazon boxes all the time. Just make sure you cover up all the logos before you ship.

@@Sup3rLobst3r If you tell your co-workers and neighbors, you need boxes, soon enough you will be flooded with amazon boxes, bubble wrap and those air cushions. also, if you have a friendly banker/teller, let them know you'll take the empty coin boxes. some banks use dozens a week and have to fill their trash with them. those are excellent for small items and super light but sturdy.

To me there is no "cheap" way to ship. The USPS keeps going up in price and I do believe these s/h costs + fees + taxes are hurting sales. It's called sticker shop. When the buyer sees the "final" sale, they are shocked.

The 16 ounce upper limit for First Class packages is ONLY applicable for labels purchased through eBay. If you go inside of the post office and purchase a label there, First Class rates can only be applied up to 13 ounces. I know you quickly mentioned to buy labels online because it's cheaper, but for anyone not super familiar, knowing this discrepancy with First Class may help to prevent some confusion (in the event that anyone does buy labels from USPS over the counter). Great video!

Great job, Casey! You covered most of the relevant details in a quick, easy to understand video. Only one thing: Newer sellers may not know how to determine dimensions... measuring the outside of the package, not the item, and not the dimensions stamped on the box (which are the interior dimensions of the box).

He did a great job on the video w/ explaining, but your best bet is to just list a few items to get your feet wet. It will all make much better sense after you've gone through it a few times. Also...You can always run up to your post office to grab some free envelopes or boxes they have on the shelf in the lobby...and if you go when it's not too busy, they will always answer any questions, if you have any. Once you've sold a few items, you'll be kicking yourself for not having done it sooner. Don't overthink it....millions of people have successfully already done it & most of us aren't valedictorian's.

I've used the legal size priority envelope for things that are a little bigger than the bubble mailer and not breakable since they are 15in long.

Honestly pirate ship is same most of the time or diffence is not worth time to check. I always used ship station but primarily sell games so mostly bubble mailer 8x9

Great info! I just learned the DVD boxes you can get from the post office are Priority Mail only so I can't use them for Media Mail pricing. I spent an a hour in the post office repacking 4 DVDs into plain envelopes I had to buy from the post office so that I could use my media mail price labels already printed. Cost me more after purchasing the envelopes at the post office of course.. Lesson learned.

I don’t know if this was mentioned or not but USPS boxes are free inside the post office when using priority mail. I found this out after paying $5 for a larger box to ship an item. And some post offices now have a machine that will do everything digitally for more convenient shipping without having to wait in line.

Victoria, me too 😂 I panicked when my first item sold. I was thinking OMG how do I know I did it right? Then I started using the shipping calculator to figure out beforehand exactly how I’d ship and what it would cost roughly and suddenly it started to click for me. I’m still very new (few months) but it’s gotten easier. I hope you’re having good luck!

Awesome video! To add on, for First Class shipping, if you're using a large envelope and can keep it under 3/4 inch in thickness (with your item packed), you will qualify for "flats" and you'll save around 50%-75% of the shipping price compared to a parcel. Same First Class rules apply. Also note, if you're trying to use the USPS shipping calculator, First Class won't be an option if you use 13.1 ounces and above, when in reality, it's under 15.999 ounces. I believe it may have to do with purchasing labels in store vs online.

Anothwr pro tip is resize your boxes which reduces weight and overall size and choose bix best to fit. Thermal paper can be gotten free from ups and FedEx for 6x4 with intent of using them(please use only for designated company or favor them over other as much ad possible)

Another things to be aware of is when you do calculated shipping ebay will charge your buyer the full counter price for the shipping unless you select in your settings for your buyer to get your discount. This can often put your item above the total market value.

Thank you for this video. Quick question. I've listed a couple items that weighed no more than 15.99 ounces. They all came up with the same price as Priority instead of First Class lower prices. I know the post office will upgrade to priority anything over 13 over ounces. Did ebay stop this or am I doing something wrong? Don't forget about pirateship for USPS priority cubic shipping for heavier packages. As long as the package is no more than 20 pounds and no more than half of a cubic foot it ships for less than anything else depending on how far it's being shipped. I just shipped 61 magazines to NC from PA for under $8 priority cubic.

Hi Casey, I noticed you didn't mention the flat rate envelope, you know the one over the years that some postoffices would argue IT MUST BE FLAT TO SHIP ..... I've used it to ship jeans , almost anything before the bubble wrap ones came out . Can we still use those as it's cheaper then the bubble and same size , I would just use tape to make s7re it d8dnt open , meaning the flat rate priority hard shell envelope ? Thank you Josette Texas

Newbies - if you're selling antiques/collectibles....charge shipping! If you're selling common items (shoes, clothes, media etc.), offer free shipping. I sell some collectible items where there might be only be 5-10 other listings - if you take "Best offer", you can REALLY get burned on shipping costs if it's a large and bulky item.

Correct. Depending on your item you can always adjust. If you have a rare item you don't have to promote it. and can probably add shipping or price higher or both

Question re first-class shipping. Does not include insurance unless you add it. May as well just ship priority which includes insurance. Your thoughts? I have been selling on ebay for almost 26 years but still learn so much from. your content. Also, re the new international shipping: unless you opt out, you are automatically opted in to international shipping? Do not like that as I like to pick and choose what I may want to ship internationally. Could you clarify?

New seller here…Glad I found your channel. This is great! Thank you!! Questions on priority. The Tyvek envelope is not listed in the ebay drop down section. Do I use the generic Priority option? Also, I have regional rate boxes left that I just received from USPS. They are not in the drop down ebay list either.

Regional is gone. You can't get that rate any longer. If you use regional boxes it'll be charged BY WEIGHT normal priority. The tyvex I don't use. I believe it has its own rate. no clue. In 16 years I've never used one.. Should tell you all you need to know about those

The tyvek Priority envelope is priced by weight, as if you were using your own packaging, it is NOT one of the flat rate envelopes. Only flat rate envelopes and boxes will be named in the list of services offered on eBay (alongside PM by weight, Fedex, UPS, etc)

Use Pirateship and choose parcel select ground cubic, you'll be surprised how much you can save. Not every time, but very often.

I really like parcel select. Only thing I'm unclear on is how long it truly takes on average and do the items have a higher risk of damage due to increased shipping time and/or different sorting processes.

No mention of USPS Parcel Select Service- they stopped it years ago but brought it back. I use it now for large heavy items instead of UPS. UPS has been unreliable n UPS often uses the US Post Office for final delivery which delays items. When I purchase items I also prefer USPS - our Postman is reliable n delivers at the the time.. UPS delivers too many times to wrong address.

UPS ground I offer on heavy items when I rarely have them. It's always been cheaper for me

Be aware that the Economy services do not include insurance for your item, so for anything breakable or high value, use Priority. Although reportedly USPS has not been as good about reimbursement for damaged items as they used to be (well, it's mixed).

I’ve shipped a couple items via UPS with using usps boxes 😮😮 i never knew we couldn’t, ups never told me anything they just accept my packages should, i be worried?

Do you have a video that explains the diff between personal and business account on ebay? And is there a limit on how many items I can sell in a year on each one? I found this video to be very useful.

No real difference honestly. Limits are based on your account history and you can call every 30 days to get an increase

Its also a plus if you work for a warehouse and can get the bubble wrap and boxes for free

I have the same printer. For some reason, it prints the labels sideways, and only the bar code shows up. I've all but given up on it. Any tips?

On eBay’s shipping section I dont see usps first class offered as an option.

I just sold a vintage hand saw and once you go over 24 inches theres at least a $4 to $5 difference between USPS and UPS so if you're going to ship something that's over 24 inches I would definitely use UPS unless the buyer pics USPS you can try to use ups and hope the buyer doesn't say anything and say hey I picked USPS because I like it better or blah blah blah you're just trying to make money or something and also once you get up to the 30-inch range it's even bigger of a price difference between USPS and UPS

Thank you I never noticed the priority boxes had "flat rate" and by the weight boxes. Have they had this option since they started the whole priority box thing?
