This, I think, is the best intro to film photography video out there. The others are: - Omitting crucial information such as how to load film EXACTLY and how to rewind - Have less memes and chuckles - Are basically clickbait for 'tricks and tips' they could have told in 10 seconds (really, FU if this is you) This is jam packed full of gems. Such a good overview. Thanks Grainydays!

Well, about the lightmeter... With some experience you'll need no electronic assistance whatsoever... Every photographer should begin with crude analogics and follow the learning process. With electronic assistance you'll be just a fish in the sea, creating artificial photos... Learning about the process and getting the organic feeling is what make you a good photographer and after all, is what gives you money. Remember, as a son and a dad of a photographer: "Your job is to capture the human feeling. No computer can surpass or even understand it!" Anyway Nice to see young lads keeping the old art of analogic film alive!

As an old film photographer. I recommend 100 speed or 125. Kodak gold is a good film. Unless you’re shootings action or lower light then I would recommend 400 speed or higher. Fir B&W I would say HP4 125 iso. For a basic SLR like the K1000, X700, AE1. You’re limited to 1/1000 on the shutter speed. You have more reciprocity with slower film. Sunny 16 rule. You can go to f 5.6 at 1/1000 with 125 speed HP4. With TriX and FP5 you’re limited to 1/000 at f11 for a bright sunny day. Even in shade you still have some good options with 100 or 125 speed with a standard 50mm lens. If you use a flash why go with fast film? I was a photojournalist my go to film was PlusX and TriX. I used a lot of both but only TriX if I was shooting lower light or more action.

1/30 for hand held shots. Not with a 50 mm. General rule double the focal length to set shutter speed. A 50 mm shoot at 125. 100 mm 1/250. The higher telephoto focal length the more this applies. You can get away with a 35mm lens at 1/30 of a second, but shooting a 200mm you have to watch your shutter speed. You can get away with slower shutter speed if you’re panning the shot but otherwise no.
