Have you ever shot a time lapse before? Tell us your tips in the comments below!

The biggest thing I've noticed for night timelapse, especially aurora, is to make sure auto WB isn't on. You can correct in post, but it's a whole lot simpler if every image is set to the same WB instead of the camera (D850 in my case) changing depending on lighting and what the aurora activity is doing. Super important on nights with high activity because the aurora can cover the entire sky in the span of seconds, so you might get a pretty significant WB change between shots. Then again, it's even better when there is enough activity that you can just skip single stills or timelapse and just run 4k video.

I have a timelapse mode on my Canon M50. Are there advantages in the way you shoot the timelapse over the timelapse mode?
@BandH
@BandH 3 жыл бұрын
The Canon EOS M50 shoots a time lapse movie which takes all the time lapse images and puts them together automatically. The other way of shooting a time lapse would involve using an intervalometer to take the images based on the length of the time lapse when you play it back. The images would have to be put together in post to create the time lapse.

Have an question about the settings mentioned in the video.......the text showed that the camera was set for a 10 sec shutter, but used a 1 sec interval.....won't that cause conflicts unless the interval is set to 11 sec to allow time for the shutter to complete each exposure? Or is the Sony built-in interval timer different than that on Nikons?

@@RICHARDWATSONPHOTO incorrect. There is nothing wrong with the way he did it. Using a 1 second interval with a 10 second shutter opening just simply results in a 1 second interval between each 10 second exposure. On a stopwatch it results in 11 seconds for each exposure. So when calculating out you your total shoot time for 240 shots, you would figure 240 shots X 11 seconds = 2,640 seconds / 60 seconds per minute resulting in 44 minutes of total shoot time to obtain a 10 second video of your Timelapse when played back at 24fps.

@@RICHARDWATSONPHOTO if you were to use an 11 second interval, that would result in 21 seconds for each shot. 10 seconds of the shutter being open + 11 seconds between each exposure.

If the lights are in motion, or "dancing", wouldn't the 10sec exposure of each time lapse be blurry as the lights will inevitably show movements in 10sec?

The Northern Lights are not sharply dilineated to begin with and their moion enhances the final images. Feel free to experiment with the settings for the results that are most pleasing to you. >Mark

Can I do this on the Sony Zve10 with Sigma 16mm F1.4 ?
@BandH
@BandH 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Interval shooting mode is ideal for creating time-lapse movies with the aid of Imaging Edge software. Intervals can be selected between 1-60 seconds for recording up to 9999 sequential free. Also, in-camera battery charging is possible via the USB port using a portable battery to benefit long interval shooting sessions. >Mark
