How To Shoot Wheels

In this quick tutorial I demonstrate 5 different levels of lighting using wheels as an example. From a beginner level to mastery.

Hi Easton, thanks for the video. How would you manage getting soft reflection on the bolts when shooting straight to the wheel ? Should I make a hole onto the diffuser/reflector in order to get the lens through?

You could do it that way, if you had to. Because the bolts are convex rounded like the back of a spoon your camera lens would only show up very small black dot on the bolts, which makes them easy to retouch out. In reality though, unless it was really really close up of the wheel detail I don’t think it’s something to worry about. Instead of white reflections on the bolt, being partially black can also work. A combo of white and black reflections helps give it shape anyway.
