The cavity at the attachment point is similar to a Drum. You essentially create a region where the sound can vibrate. As for beaver, I guess it is to remove the vibrations a bit from the Sinew meanwhile the play was removed to lead to less wobble. Since that wobble can create a rattle effect. The Velcro(?) I do not know.

Nope. Just cut whole (intact) paracord sheath and inner core and put into bow string filaments and areas mentioned. Look at YT Revhiker vid (on the right side) (who I mentioned it to first, or another person, 1-2 years ago). Can actually use far smaller 3/4 inch or 1 inch sizes and more number of puffs along entire string, versus big puffs. Defiinitely DOES NOT SLOW DOWN the string speed. Immediately above/below nock (and outside of line of sight), then at the conventional harmonic positions of half-way, and at the string-snap bow tip ends. The nock puffs diminish the nock/arrow "snap" and harmonics from travelling further up the string upon release of the arrow. Same options can be put into cross bows, ... even compound bows. Compounds you want to install puffs at the resting positions near the pulleys, ... and at the drawn positions. These puff positions are never being drawn through the pulleys, but when they are next to the pulleys whether drawn or resting, keep down the snap-slap of string on pulley, ... and then the other conventional puff harmonics on the string. As most compound bows ARE NOT involved with string air speed (as they are vertical movements), multiple TINY puffs along the string seriously dampen any sound. Check it out, work with such EVEN 1/2 inch - 3/4 inch puffs (tiny little buggers) and do a speed calibration test. Trim down if needed even further (doubtful), or remove a few here and there, ... and you will have a dead-thud ... still deadly accurate bow that will amaze everybody. If you don't like a paracord puff, then go to WalMart or Dollar Store and they sell little poly colored puffs of all sizes for $1-3. You can experiment with all these cotton (poly) balls and which sizes fit instead. The puffs might provide greater wind surface coverage as the wind can't grab the poly puff, versus actual tiny-tiny paracord fishing lines. For me, these tiny-tiny fishing line filaments are so flexible, that there is actually no wind resistance, like a deer walking through a briar patch, and only getting its fur brushed, .... same as the wind actually free-flowing through these tiny fishing lines (far smaller 1-2# test, vs fly fishing 3-4# or 8# test and see how you can zing those 20-50+ feet through the air across a stream (!). So this is why I am partial to the paracord. All those 150-200 strands truly dampen out any vibrations and frequencies on the bow string, or any bow harmonics it might have.

Great tip dude!!! I have an old pse impala that ive just upgraded with some 60 lbs ragim limbs which made it really noisy, and the fur silencers werent lasting at all. Takes a while to set it up right but its definitely worth it (and cheap too). Thanks a lot!

In a similar fashion i used the "rubber legs", flat strips that are pulled apart to use in tying flies for fishing to make silencers for my recurve. They do have a limited life-span, since they are rubber, but i got a good 2 years plus out of a single set, and it cost me something like the equivalent of 2 dollar. The bow i used it on is a 35 lb Internature that i used on the range when i was still teaching newcomers to the sport. Yeah, a cheap dirty fix, but it worked like a charm.

see, that is the type of commaraderie that I want with other militants and survivalist. I want the training this woman has, along with the training Starry Hilder has. I fail to see how Lynn's comment is sexist in the slightest. I think the intent was to comment on her age and the fact that the skill is being maintained. The fact that she's a woman is only an aside and in no way was he implying that women are less anything. It's no different than me calling someone "young man". She seems to do it to nurture an injury. Asian styles of archery point their bows upwards because typically an archer would be on horseback, and it would be what archers call a "bad thing" if you stabbed your galloping horse in the back of the head.

@@kapoof2 that's quite insightful :) I'd have never been able to tell that kind of thing. The memory I was going off of was the current sport in Japanese archery where its more about oneness and proper form over aim, which guides arrows to their target.

​@@chainer8686 What you are speaking of is kyudo, which is more ritualistic than practical, much like iaido for the katana. However, it got its roots in the practical usage of a bow while on horseback, which was the standard in the east, which is why eastern archery and western archery differ in their techniques. As long as the pointy end goes into the target, thats all that matters.

Those were two videos in one. The title is "silencing a recurve" so that's what we get. She says nothing about the bow, nothing technical at least. But we get to see the design and it seems to work so that's probably all the manufacturer was looking for. Her customizing it like that was very interesting tho. Still, the bow looks rinda ridiculous afterwards and the only advantage is that it's silent so deer your're not allowed/able to shoot wouldn't hear you release? HA! Still, she's a very good host and the whole video is far above usual youtube production standards (she just calmly explains stuff, calm beautiful woods, no annoying music or effects). I never sub to any channel but if I would it'll be this one ^^

Actually I have to agree with SICKDOAPNIXON, killing something that can't shoot back just to get a kick out of taking a life is sick. But killing something for food is something we've been doing since we were created. I really can't see us stopping at this point, especially if we want to survive the next collapse in society (they seem to occur at roughly 1,000 year intervals, we're probably overdue :-D )

Yes, wrong. Well, nobody will be offended when you do archery like this in the woods, but at an archery club you're not allowed to pull the bow while pointing the arrow upwards (if the string is released by accident, who knows what the arrow will hit?)

The only way to completely silence something is to fire it in a vacuum.

well if you shoot a gun in vacuum, that's going to be loud as hell. Probably even more loud, than in normal atmospheric conditions, because there's nothing to stop the gas molecules created by the explosion. sure, you won't hear too much outside the vacuum chamber, because out there you already have the chamber wall and the atmosphere actually muffing the explosion

That's one way to do it, but there are other methods that involve simply technique, which she has already developed.

@Anonymus User: If there were any methode that didn't require a nocking point on the string people would be using it to increase performance by reducing the mass of the string. Believe me shooting without a fixed point and with one is a difference like night and day, if it moves by only 1mm you already notice a huge difference. If you know of a methode that works without a nocking point let me know.

+ashbow archer You're talking about serious target archery, especially Olympic archery, when you're talking about millimeters making a large difference. I don't see that as necessary for a survival bow. Techniques are sufficient.

+Anonymous User If you know of a technique for sufficiently even nocking please let me know. Although i come from a target archery background (I shoot mostly Bowhunter tournaments shooting bowhunter recurve or traditional recurve bow) I was actually refering to a bowhunting scenerario, so no shots further than 25m. Even if the nocking point is not set idealy it is important that the point is as close to the same every time because the arrow will fly quite differently everytime when you don't nock in the same spot. By the way a nocking point marker could just be a piece of string tied onto the string.

I've even seen some folks mark the string with a sharpie (which I wouldn't recommend because of possible solvent damage issues) or crayon (which seems less destructive to a string).
