In this tutorial, vocal coach Charmaine Brown takes you through strategic exercises to help you find a powerful, contemporary-sounding mix voice-both in the low notes (so your voice doesn’t “bottom out”!) and in the high notes (so you don’t have to push and strain!). We’ll explore the song in the original key of Gb, but if you’re singing it in a different key, just apply these same principles!

This is saving meeeee thank you I am asked to sing this song all the time and I’ve developed sort of a not great attitude about it I think because it’s so difficult I have a hard time letting go and actually worshipping the Lord when I sing it. I prayed about it yesterday and God lead me here. So grateful ❤

Make sure to choose a key that works best for your voice-and don't count yourself out... with diligent training the voice can learn to do many things!

Whenever you demonstrate straining, you intentionally sing out of tune. So it seems more like an example of being out of tune rather than strain. I would love to hear what you consider strained singing with good intonation.

I hear you! I do find that many people go off pitch (flat) when they are straining to hit the notes, although that is certainly not always the case.
