Instead of the sliver of paper towel, you could use Zap Flexi-Tips (or similar brand). They are very fine nozzles that will fit on your bottle of CA glue, and you can direct the flow and coat the sides of the hole. Need to be careful with paper materials as CyanoAcrylate has an affinity for cellulose and will produce an exothermic reaction (forming cellulose cyanoacrylate). I have seen a paper tissue (90-odd percent cellulose) smoke when it got CA on it. Also, with the flexi-tips, it may (depending on plate bushings etc) be possible to apply the CA glue with the pin still in place, and it will wick in around the pin by capillary action.

If you apply glue, will there be any tuning problems later when the glue dries?
@TheGildedPiano2 жыл бұрын
With CA glue it WILL dry and solidify, that’s the purpose. So no it doesn’t introduce any negative effects. It sometimes doesn’t work but you’ll know right away during that appointment and you can proceed to hammer in the tuning pin a bit further or replace it with one size up. Good question.

@@TheGildedPiano I worded the question wrong - English is not my main language. In this question I meant sticking strong tuning pin into pinblock, but I guess this glue doesn't have that power? ;-D The larger pin - unfortunately this is not an easy commodity to buy here when I live. I haven't found it in Poland or the Czech Republic, and all other results are from China. Thanks for showing this method, I will try it at my place if it works ;)

@@Jamick_Elektronika nice work trying to ask a good question in a foreign language! I know the difficulty of trying to communicate in a non-native tongue. Best of luck.

As others responded, CA almost makes a new material out of wood, I have found. The wood almost is like a composite with resin injected into it. Those pin threads will cut right into it, won't adhere to it - nor will the CA glue adhere to the cast iron plate. Quite ingenious, wonder what the old world builders and tuners would think about this magical substance.
@davidglez10093 жыл бұрын
Is really AC glue what you apply? Couldn’t be something better? I have seen that violinist or string players apply something to hold the tuning better.

Cyanoacrylite, or CA glue, is the method I personally prefer, although there certainly are other ways to approach the repair. I have found through much experience that this repair, in terms of cost/benefit, works best. You may be thinking of hot hide glue perhaps? Do you have a method you prefer? Love to hear and thanks for the comment.

Great idea of using the piece of paper to wick the glue, I actually lied this full size upright with an entire player mechanism (roll not digital!) down on my finger once, not fun!

Nononono!!! CA glues reacts with wood. Do it only if you change the pinblock 2 years later. Use a hard paper only wrapped around the tuning pin instead of putting CA glue.
@Thoracius7 ай бұрын
Why is reacting with the wood bad?
@BohumirStehlik7 ай бұрын
@@Thoracius It reacts. Dot. I did this mistake too. I CA glued whole pinblock and when I wanted to change the pins for bigger size, it was not possible to drill it properly. It was like a rubber.
@altodomino7859Ай бұрын
That's not pertinent to an upright like this because no one is going to be redrilling or replacing the pinblock
