On this episode of Crazy Will Tech Show, I show you how to slice an STL file to fit your 3D printer. We will use a free software called blender, you may of heard of it, it’s been around forever. I show you how to import STL files into blender and slice it. I’m working on a lightsaber stand but it wouldn’t fit on my Elegoo Mars. So I cut it in half with this 3d software so It would fit on my Elegoo Mars. I thought to myself this could be used for other small 3d printers, not just my little 3d printer. So let me show you how I did it.

I've never used Blender before, so thank you for the small tutorial on it. I had a file that was simply too big for Shapeways, and I needed to cut it into 2 pieces to get it to work in what I wanted. This helps tremendously, and I don't have to bother my friends anymore. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this video. I had printed a larger piece for my son and everything came out great EXCEPT for one small, but important section. By following your tutorial, I was able to cut out the entire build except for the section that had problems, reorient it so it didnt need supports and then replace the messed up section with my new perfect section without having to re-print the whole huge piece. Lifesaver!

Yeah I'm ordering a photon s resin printer and the way they advertised it and everything I read no one mentioned that you had to even slice the stl files they made it sound like you just down loaded the stl on a usb plugged it in to the printer and hit print. I know I sound stupid but 3d printing and even computers are really foreign to me. Luckily my coworker aske what I'm going to use to slice the files and then I searched it. But most videos for miniature wargaming channels make it seem like its a plug and go operation. Now I am really stressed I have no Wi-Fi and no computer but will be getting my 3d printer soon so I guess I will have to spend more money.

@@CrazyWillTechShow Thanks for replying, it is difference that is supposed to be the right setting, but it was the option for fast/exact in the solver area that allowed the cut. I hate to ask but this object was hollow that has been cut? Everything I look up uses Vertex mode which then brings the cut part of the object back or says you can't do it, but that doesn't seem right? It looks like if you can pull the pieces apart you can do it with edit mode, but cutting the way we have above edit mode brings the full object back.
