ANY methods that don't involve "other" objects/people are the ones to spend your time learning and perfecting. There is NOTHING like the feeling of stopping well, when you want to and having a variety of methods that actually work. Don't stop working on this until you have it.

Really good video, and very clearly explained as always. It's really helpful to see how it's done perfectly, and also how us mortals try to emulate it and work towards it. This a big step towards carving and slaloming hills, which is giving me problems at the moment, so it's a real help.

Glad you like this new angle. It came rom talking with a student who told me that he understood his mistake when he saw me explaining the correction of the mistake to another student. Then he "got it". Now I'm going to pester my students to let me do this with them regularly....

Glad to see you back. I haven't been skating recently much at all. I went for a ride today. I was amazed how well it turned out - long distances one-legged, great control of outer edges, good aerobic condition... How come? What I've been doing instead of skating for the past couple weeks is conditioning for gymnastics. Lots of core work, exercise ball, yoga, handstands, cartwheels, a bit of slacklining... to the point of feeling achy and exhausted most of the time. But apparently all those core exercises are doing some miracles in the skating department. So... if your skating feels crappy and makes you tired, don't just go on skating and hope for the best. Instead, do yourself a favor and work those muscles responsible for maintaining body postures. Like the hunched over posterior pelvic tilt speed skating pose. Or the straight body, extended hip figure skater pose. Any conventionally "uncomfortable" body position really. Maybe your skating sucks because your body is weak - but based on my experience it's not going to become much stronger from skating alone.
@SkatefreshVideos

Cross training is definitely the answer. If I wasn't a yogi I wouldn't be fit for the purpose of skating. Skating is great exercise but no one exercise hits all the muscles so changing it up is a good way to help all your sports. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I do not use it that much because sometimes I get stuck with my T-stop over using it, or because I use the lunge stop or the twist stop instead, but I have to say I should be using it (and practicing it) more often. @SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Most of your weight must be on the rear leg and knees must be very bent. It's like you are going to sit down on that support leg, the leg in front is for steering. When you have a comfortable scissors position going in a straight line, then the parallel turn feels very natural with a subtle tilt of the edges.

Hi Asha. Thanks for all your help. I find that when I try this method, I turn the opposite way as the forward foot. I think it is a habit from skiing.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 5 жыл бұрын
You are doing whats called the "Anti-parallel Turn" which is actually harder and more risky as the back skate in the scissor position has more weight and that's on the more difficult Outside edge (which if it doesn't turn as much as the front skate, will run right into it tripping you up). So that's the risk, but if you do that naturally then it can work but I bet the other direction doesn't feel at all comfy with the "wrong" foot infant. So maybe work on the Parallel turn on your weak side direction to keep you safe.

@SkatefreshVideos

I teach it 60% on back leg, 40% on front. Focus on the narrowness of the Scissor position as this is where most people are too wide and that stops the PT from happening.

@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos Жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. It should be 60% of weight on the back, 40% on the front. You should feel most of the weight on the ball of the back foot. Try to do large turns, they will be easier than sharp turns. If you want to learn step by step please take a look at Asha's online course here skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-beginner-level-full-course/ This course includes the parallel turn.

Yes almost everything is the same quads and inlines (stopping is the most different due to brakes/stoppers being in opposite place on the skate). Quads need a bit more knee movement to move the skate but its the same movement. It's all skating.

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. You should practice the scooter exercise that Asha explains here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLJjiqialdaZhHU.html That solves pronation and also knock knees. You must focus quite a bit but over time you'll correct the position for good.

Ok b how do I do this while going downhill

I wouldn't necessarily recommend backwards parallel turns slalom to descend a hill......it might depend on the hill. If it was very wide this could work. But I tend to do backwards stepping plough or backwards T stop and go straight down it and use a Powerslide at any moment I need to stop..... Hope this helps.

I sorta hate to nit pick but the camera should have been on the other side shooting with the sun instead of against it. I’m sure the camera person knew this so there was probably something that was forcing the decision to shoot in the direction that was chosen.

A perfect lesson. Thanks Asha. Except for the cameraman. He/she should NEVER record anything against the SUN. It is an amateurish camera work which ruins unesserly otherwise a very good rollerblades presentation.

Thanks for your feedback. The sun was VERY low that evening and I wanted the "un-busy" background....... plus the camera man is 10yrs old so a pretty good try considering.
