Once again excellent video, except for the bearing part. While I generally agree to the point made, I think it is still a good idea to clean your bearing. Just relaxing and bearing that starts to make noises and throwing the old ones away is just so wasteful. It might be cheap, but you are also creating unnecessary waste. If you regularly clean your bearing before they start sizzling, you extend their lifetime lot and therefore produce less waste.

The ground is my friend. Brilliant. I will think that more now, because it’s true. I hit an unexpected downhill a couple of days ago and should have done the rockstar fall. But if I had practiced it before the session I wouldn’t have gotten the deep road rash on my hamstring and a hole in my pants. Oh by the way, could you make a video about what to do when facing a downhill on skates. I live in Southern California and there are little and big hills everywhere and from nowhere! I love Urban skating, so this now is a problem for me, and in my opinion is the enemy no 1 in general for skaters: unexpected downhill! 😮

Hockey shin guards or baseball catchers shin guards have a big advantage over standard issue knee pads: they're made to take on and off without removing your skates. Plus, better protection.

I grabbed railing on a downhill (wasn't ready for slopes at the time) because I panicked at the speed. I kinda hyperextend my thumb and banged up my back. Luckily, my pride took the most damage. Didn't touch slopes for a long time after that. I learned some stopping and speed control techniques and now I love that slope.

I never really thought about falling much as I fell a lot when I was a kid so was kind of used to it. But now that I'm older I don't fall a lot but the times I fell, I really felt it. When I lose control again, I will try to remember to get close to the ground fast. Also the bearings, tried cleaning one and the end-result was a noisy bearing and a wheel that stopped immediatly after I spin it, while the "dirty" bearings were quiet and the wheel spinned for much longer - I presumably did it all wrong.

the ground really is your friend. sometimes the path is too narrow and steep for me to slow down, so I just get as low as I can and let myself lay down. a little scrape on the pants is much better than losing control at high speed

Totally agree on the bearings, historically there has been a lot of BS with bearings. Unless you're a competitive speed skater, expensive bearings are wasted on you, and you are wasting money for no benefit. Just replace, don't bother cleaning, don't bother getting expensive bearings. Get ILQ rated bearings from a reputable brand such as FR, Seba, TwinCam, Bones, Wicked etc.

Agree recreational skaters don’t need expensive bearings. I have a bearing shop near me that carries every bearing for just about every application and price. That’s where I get them.

Hey man, thanks for all the content, I appreciate your work. But there was something weird with your audio on this one that made it really hard for me to just listen to what you're teaching. Sounds like you're using 2 mics with one slightly delayed? I'm not entirely sure. You may not even want the feedback, IDK 🤙🤜🤛

All these skates mentioned are in the same category, The biggest reason to get one or the other is because of the fit on your foot. The best way to know the fit is to take a trip to Amsterdam and come and try them out in the store. see you soon hopefully!

I am very curious. What is your opinion on using aggressive skates with 80mm wheels as your primary recreation skate and also your skate park skate as well. Is dedicated boots made for recreation a better option than using our aggressive boot?
@Thisissoul
@Thisissoul 7 ай бұрын
the basic differences are the overall sideways flex for these two types of categories. with 80mm skatepark use you need the sideways stiffness more then most aggressive skate boots can offer. There are exceptions though like some of the carbon skates or the RB Blank which will work great with bigger wheels

Also does the soft boot style discussed happen to affect the feel of the boot on the foot, say for the zetra blades? It also feels like my ankle is susceptible to injury based on how I have to balance myself!😂😂

Love your videos, man! But, as @CrystalEYE commented, I do not agree that much with the bearing advice. Besides the unnecessary waste already pointed out, there are places, like my country (Brazil), where bearings are not that cheap. We have to invest a considerable amount of money even on basic ones. Think about it: a $1 bearing costs around 8 to 10 reais. It's almost 10 times the price you guys usually spend. So, it's not that obvious or simple to just discard and buy new ones regularly.

Why does the in-line feel so foreign to those who are used to quads? It feels painful like I’m tying to balance my foot on top of a log or a thin plank so it feels like a constant pressure in the center bottom of my foot? If you have a flat foot does that affect pain factor and is there a fix? Is there a simpler way to stop, like you would with a toe stop? I don’t get how the back break is supposed to help you. I’m new to them so please be kind! Lol

Cheap bearing are cheap. High quality bearings aren't cheap and are absolutely worth cleaning.
@avandurion

Did you ever work with tools as precise as .0001 Inch or something similar? I doubt so otherwise you wouldn't claim that a clean bearing will work as well as brand new one.
@AdamWeeks
@AdamWeeks 5 ай бұрын
@@avandurionnick didn't claim that a cleaned set will work like new but that cleaning high quality bearings is worth the effort. I would completely agree. A set of quality bearings will last longer, perform better, and if you decide to clean them will still be better than new low quality cheap bearings. And not that it matters much in this conversation but yes, i have worked with manufacturing high precision parts.

I disagree when it comes to cleaning bearings. I always try to get at least a few cleans out of bearings before I replace them - feels less wasteful. Forking out 16+ euro every time I get bearings wet or dirty would quickly become an expensive habit here in Ireland.
@gregorwatson731
@gregorwatson731 3 ай бұрын
You don't replace all the bearings at once, just the faulty one when it fails or sounds close to failing. I pack all my bearings with marine grease from new so they're good for all weather skating and haven't replaced any in years.
