Came for tips on smashing, walked away a better player instead

I’d love more videos like this explaining mistakes in deckbuilding. Like “here we are in an unfortunate situation because of this and that”. Maybe using patrons’ decks if they are interested.

I have made it to the third goldfish, and I actually really appreciate this. I am the only one of my friends that goldfishes, and it’s good to see an example of someone else doing it. I don’t mind seeing this more! If you have the capacity to be able to, it would be cool to see a goldfish example in each of your deck techs to see an example of how you would play out a hand with your build. I realize that’s a LOT more work, but they’re helpful for learning for sure 😁

It's very interesting to see how you are goldfishing your decks, it tells more about the deck than just showing the cards in it. I'd like to see more videos like this one! :)

I love that you actually show yourself goldfishing, few content creators do that and it's helpful. I want to know whether killing somebody always assumes they don't or can't block anything for simplicity or what's your take on that. Also when using cards like jaheira consider using a second counter on your tokens or one of the counters near your turn counter to track how much Mana you have (left).

Great video! I actually began goldfishing on moxfield quite recently and found it useful and instructive beyond my initial expectations. Personally though, I don’t hold such a rigid win-turn rule. As I tend to run plenty of interaction I also attempt to simulate board disruptions at inopportune moments to better gauge the deck’s resilience, and play slower if I have the chance to leave mana open to mess with my imaginary opponents’ stuff.

If you could include any shortcuts like you did at the start with quickly adding counters and upping the power and toughness that would help me when goldfishing/using Moxfield on Spelltable. I love your videos dude and please keep up with these tips videos as they're really useful and very informative.

I Goldfish a lot and a there are so many decks i made on Moxfield i never played irl. They did the thing i wanted to do, but they played out in a different way i wanted, like to grindy or not that fun. Goldfishing saved me a lot of money 😂 A thing i do is start a new game in moxfield and see if my opening hand is good, if it isnt i free mulligan. No good hand? I Mulligan to 6. I do this for like 15-20 times. Then i balance things out like more lands, more cheap draw or more ramp. I also often simulate a boardwipe on turn 5 or a removal on a key piece of my strat. There is another funthing happening in my playgroup: one player sold all his stuff cause he needed money (i guess) and he is playing my decks everytime we meet. It's funny to have 2 of your decks in a pod and be on the opposite site where you see the weak and the strong parts of your deck.

This is a really good video. Turn 7 is a decent benchmark. You can also goldfish to pretend what happens if your opponent blows up your stuff. Great and concise video. I enjoyed watching it. Turn 7 should at least put you in essentially a winning board state.

This video was great. I was building Henzie almost the same time as you, so i have a similar build, i think like 2 card difference. So much fun. Just pulled the new green God , want to slide that one in the deck.

I appreciate this information, I've been goldfishing for years and it's great in understanding how your deck functions and how to play it properly. The turn 7 thing is nice but too fast for most people I have come across In my experience most games are done with by turns 10-12.

Made it to the end. I loved seeing the goldfishing. I personally Goldfish 4 decks at once, against each other, to simulate interaction etc a bit. My suggestion is to keep to two, because the third is starting to stretch my attention span.

17:55 Letting you know I made it this far. I have a bit of a different view. My bar for my decks that I want them to hit are different for each one. Lots of times I don’t put the “obvious” win cons in my deck to enjoy the game more. Imma admit, I love playing with my food. So, despite being in a winning position, I usually won’t end unless it’s completely a blowout like with infinite tokens/dmg or just a 1v1. It depends on the deck. My aggro decks NEED to finish the game by turn 7 or else they get outclassed by value engines and control/combo decks. My control decks need to “stabilize” before turn 5 AND be able to hold up adequate amounts of removal or else a value deck will outgrind it, or an aggro deck will put my life total low enough that i’ll have to let my control pieces be sacced. My combo decks need to consistently find pieces without many tutors AND do “something” in the meantime to not be a sitting duck and get bodies for free hits by the table. My non-aggro decks can win BY turn 10, which is when I expect the game to end. And my decks that are generic value engines or theme based I want them to do their thing AND have resiliency to board wipes/hate cards. It’s not about doing X dmg by turn Y. It’s about consistently doing what I want to be doing in a way that I think is interesting. Putting it that way strips away what the decks NEED to have to achieve their payoffs. I think making sure the deck works is more important than eliminating a player or focusing them. And i’d love to see a video from you about threat evaluation. As in, who you watch out for at a table depending on which colors they are in, what deck you’re playing, and what commanders you have. And carefully deciding which person is the biggest threat, which one is the least threatening and why. Example: playing an aggro deck, usually white players have tons of cheap removal and tons of board wipes, not to mention protection in Teferi’s Protection. So they are sometimes my main priority off the table. Other times it’s the green player, as their creatures usually are big enough and scale into the mid-late game and can either clap back or simply are strong enough I can’t attack into them. It’s a race against time in that scenario. Something like that I find interesting and nuanced especially in Commander where there’s 4 players and a near infinite number of different strategies any person may be playing.

I got my Henry WU closing out just now with CraterHoof turn 7. Sidisi, Undead Vizier basically tutor it up for me. I'm having trouble with the Yidris. If you ever do this again could you go over it. Right now, I'm working on my Kenrith deck and trying to figure out which way to go. Our table are not allowed to play infinites though. I thought about monarch theme but maybe that would probally be too long of a game. Any Suggestions.

I Goldfish to see what good opening hands look like, not to win by a specific turn. Try to figure out how much ramp and card draw are needed, and how much is too much. You can also look for cards that don't quite fit. Sometimes card gets stuck in your hand, and sometimes a cards effect is not as good as you thought.

Like to see how the decks you made are properly supposed to be played in your mindset, then can be tuned depending on the player. Maybe have goldfishing decks be a seperate video attatched?

Hey! thanks for the video with the explanation in the beginning and the actual goldfishing in the second part. You show us perfectly that sometimes expectation and reality differ. You want to smash the whole table by turn 7 as stated in the first part of the video and in the following two goldfishing sessions you just showed that even if your board is not attacked and your spells aren´t countered you barely kill one player. Dont get me wrong, I like both decks that you showed up to 16:30 and both decks they do their thing but they are not as punchy as one would think considering the intro of the video whick makes your initial statement a bit weaker.

I started playing magic a year ago and have used sites like moxfield to playtest, but only surface-level to see if my mana base was adequate. This video goes more into depth and was very eye-opening and exciting to watch. Would love to see more example videos of goldfishing and it would be interesting to see how you'd approach budget decks (20-50€/$) and/or (slighty upgraded) precons in goldfishing, as I would assume most wouldn't be able to smash oppenents turn 7 (I may be wrong 😅). However would they be able to at turn 10 maybe or does it take even longer? 🤔

Made it this far. Build on this playtest idea. Good information. Slow down a bit and pick maybe only one deck. (Video length) explain what the goal of the deck is. Maybe have a grouping of early game cards/plays , midgame cards/plays and late game "example of a win conditions"

Going infinte is just a boring way to play commander. It's great getting deep into Commander games. More fun for the group. I understand wanting to win consistly but the amount of fun had by the group when veryone gets to play their decks is the best. i do like your videos, gives me a ton of ideas for decks and upgrades.

I think that if you slowed down a little and didn't assume everyone already knows what all the cards do it would be better. I also think you need to tighten up your math skills. Doing 24 damage on turn 6 and 34 damage on turn 7 doesn't eliminate 2 players. It should be less about trying to prove the deck wins turn 7/8 (and using rushed fuzzy math to make it appear that it does) and more about learning which turn it ACTUALLY wins. I love your content and am only offering critique because you asked. Keep it up bro.
