How To: Solder An RC Battery XT90/EC5 Connector

Back to the basics: Solder an EC5 connector onto a lipo battery. wanted to share a Few tips i've learned over the years that will help you guys out.
In this demonstration I will be using 2x2S 7.4 V ZEE power batteries, We will remove the XT90 and solder on an EC5 Pretty simple if done correctly..

Actually you should remove the heat shrink and desolder ONE LEAD AT A TIME. What you did was bordering reckless and should not have been displayed in an instructional video

Did you not see the heatshrink on one of the wires. Red heat shrink on one of the two wire. reckless? Thanks for watching

I drilled a hole in my workbench for the terminal to sit straight up and down. I tin my wire, slide my covering up the wire, put my connector in its hole on the work bench, run my solder into a pool in the connector then stick my wire into the pool of solder straight up and down, wait for it to cool. Once cooled I punch the connectors into the covering to lock them in place.

Do you think u need to isolate the 2 wires better from each other better. Maybe after cutting of the connector, put a rubber band around the battery body and thread the lead you're not working on, under the rubber band, out of the way.

Yo Iron ! Watch out for shortening the wires ! I used to use electical tape on one wire when Im no ttaking care of it at the moment.

I just bought two of these packs in soft case for my hydropro inception. Still not ran the boat yet tomorrow will be its maiden, iv heard the xt90’s get hot! So will be keeping an eye on it for sure, loving the vids mate

I know this is an older video Big B that i cam across and seen how you set the terminals on an EC5 connector . The easiest way to push the terminals the rest of the way in is to take the opposite connector with the female or male terminals already installed , connect the two and squeeze together the remainder of the way with a pair of pliers with the jaws wide and get that satisfying snap . just be sure there is not alot of solder on the barb that snaps into the groove .

Thankyou for the video. I have a ebike I built I need to change the connectors I'll be working with 12 gauge wire silicone stranded and with xt90s and XT60s what gauge of wire solder.You recommend. What type of solder are using in this video .THANKS

10g wire should be sufficient. Electrical solder

I like the Ec5 connectors that has the round cup not the one that’s cut in half. Do you have any input on which ones those would be? I bough eflite that was solid and dynamite that was half cups. Looking to get solid cups.

The cheap ebay ec5 has the full cup I believe

@@IRONCLADRC I should have specified I’m not trying to go with cheap immitation. There’s lots of them that looks like they are what I want but I’m hesitant to use cheap ones.

Essas baterias são boas? Tenho um esc 120a que aceita até 4 s, e o motor é um 3660 900w, 3900 kv, será que funciona,? O motor aguenta até 3s, mais se eu acelerar em questão de segundo ele não queima né?

Love the channel but J E S U S. Im not surprised you have connections come unsoldered. The blow torch is not needed. Get yourself a real soldering iron!

I've got soldering irons I prefer using a torch. Works perfectly for ec5s. I desolder connectors due to the larger props I'm using not my soldering technique

Pretty sure ec5 will take more current than an xt90. Xt90's are easier to solder & work with

@@IRONCLADRC no way. Ec5 is way easier. You don’t have to worry about overheating the connector.

XT90 with the green on the connector is superior. The green on that connector is showing you where the resistor is on the tip of that connector that prevents surges and pops and sparks that happen when you connect high voltage batteries. XT90s are the only connectors that offer this (make sure it has the green markers). This can save the life of connections and your electronics from in-rush current damage. For that part alone, it is superior. If your running so much amperage through your XT90S or EC5 connector that it's getting hot, then you need to move to higher voltage (6s instead of 4s for example). Higher voltage will give you more performance than just high amperage (C rating). Also, your wire is only going to tolerate so many amps for so long before heating up, but it will handle higher voltage without much extra heat.

Who cares its not rocket science Here soldering a couple connectors on, i can literally do it in my sleep. Still using those battery's with out issue and holding strong 💪
