Dear Janek, you always recommend listening to got musicians to get the good feel and the gist of the "Music language" (Indeed, this is really a good advice).But to be honest ... (at least right now to get started) I listen only to YOU (when it comes to melodic ideas and expression), because I'm mesmerized by every single phrase you play. I try to copy everything. Your stuff is so musically, it is amazing. Maybe listening to you is enough, because all your inspiring examples (Metheny, Brecker ... to mention only two) are merged in you :-).You know what ... I don't even play bass. I try to implemet that to my piano playing.Thank you Janek, great work. Stay healthy. :D

How refreshing to find something other than the usual ubiquitous, double thumbing, slap and tapping nonsense, that might be technically impressive but is mostly unusable apart from showboating - and mostly devoid of musical content. Just started following Janek but I shall definitely continue. First class content and world class playing. Bravo!

Hi Janek, thanks for all the motivation - I'm really digging your stuff :D Could you talk about the process of learning to play over changes (especially Jazz Standards) fluently? How did you learn it? How much do you actually think of the changes while soloing and how much do you simply play by ear? And also, do you have any tips on practicing motivic development?

I've kinda figured this out on my own, on accident, but hearing someone way more advanced than me do it, I'm like "wow... well that was lucky"....Also I love how you can sing what you're playing. Not all the way there yet - sometimes I just know that a note I'm about to play will work, but not sure what it will exactly sound like lol

Hi Janek, how are you? I imagine you've been asked this before, but why a 5-string bass with a higher C string? I'm really interested in your point of view, years ago I explored that configuration and it was very entertaining to study chords, harmony, chord melody and compose. But I'm interested if you can expand on the matter. I would greatly appreciate it. Greetings and thanks for sharing your experiences.

Great video bud. Just a question about your bass. Does it look shorter than a regular bass or is it just the camera angle? Is it less than a 34" scale?

Some would argue that as the major pentatonic is composed of the root, the 2, the 3, the 5 and the 6 the pentatonic you just showed us is but an inversion of the major pentatonic. So the real minor pentatonic would be root, 3, flat 3, 5 and 6. What do you think?
@PhilipSaucier
@PhilipSaucier 6 жыл бұрын
Filippo Ieraci if you want to see the minor pentatonic in the major pentatonic, it would be : vi, root, ii, III, V and back to vi. Its exactly the same scale, you just start it on the relative minor

They're all in C major, and yes E phrygian would be the right mode but he used pentatonic to make it more melodic and simple

Did you read the title of the video? And when taking the time to leave negative comments on other people's videos, it's always polite to at least have something to show on your own channel. Why is it that every time someone has something negative to say from the peanut gallery, seemingly speaking from some position of authority atop their critical soapbox, they offer nothing of example to the conversation?

It's bass playing in a context that lends itself to the material being presented. Remember, our job is to fill the role that fits best in a particular setting. It's not a "one size fits all" convention. -your fellow bassist

You obviously have no idea of what you're talking about. This is a lesson on how to use a single scale to improvise or solo over a chord progression. Listen very carefully and try to learn something, kid.

This is honestly the most annoying comment ever. If everyone was as narrow minded we would still be playing half notes on a tuba still..
