Introducing the "Toolbox" method of solving projectile motion problems! Here we use kinematic equations and modify with initial conditions to generate a "toolbox" of equations with which to solve a classic three-part projectile motion problem.

Start every projectile motion problem with the Displacement Equation (DE) and the Velocity Equation (VE) for both horizontal and vertical directions. Next modify the equations to reflect your known values - creating a toolbox! Then solve for your unknown quantity. Good luck!

Combing textbooks and the internet for an equation specific to your situation is usually a frustratingly fruitless endeavor. Instead, start every projectile motion problem with the Displacement Equation (DE) and the Velocity Equation (VE) for both horizontal and vertical directions. Next modify the equations to reflect your known values - creating a toolbox! Only then will you have the right equations you need to solve your problem.

For peak height, there's an equation I find easier to use in this case: 2ad = V^2 - Vo^2. And it become even easier because V = 0m/s when finding peak height. a = -9.8m/s, d = the peak height. Hope this helps :)

I was also stumped on this for a while. He adds the S to the left side of the equation because it is a problem where the projectile is launched from a ledge. Therefore we need to add the height of the ledge to the vertical displacement.

Depends on the direction of motion I think. If you are moving away from the centre of the earth (up) gravity is not helping you. Whereas, if you are moving towards the centre of the earth (down) gravity aids you. Also depends on how you set the directions, which you should do for every physics problem.

Thank you for the great explanation! It really helped me a ton. I was lost trying to figure this out by myself. My professor told me to read the book and that didn't help much either but you video was a game changer for me. Thank you again!

sir you are genious but sir what to do when the projectile is not on a given height
@Peter_1986
@Peter_1986 8 жыл бұрын
+sourav ghosh You can just set the initial height to zero, and proceed from there.

+Sourav Ghosh Pretty much the same thing. List all the horizontal and vertical competent information listed downward, SUVAT. Some information is already known, horizontal acceleration is zero whilst vertical is -g (given that 'up' is taken as positive). Also, at the maximum height final velocity is zero (or initial if considering the right hand side). Then select the correct equation with the variables you know and one unknown. Give me a example question if you want.

stopitidontlikeit yeah you might not want to pursue something in steam if this doesn’t motivate you. However, there’s a huge amount of majors out there! Just find the right one for you! Or maybe a technical job is your deal?

You are saving me from drowning in physics with this big help and for that, thank you so much! I am into the 3rd week of my physic class, my first one since 07 and I started to question myself about my choice of career. However, I don't give up and look for as much help as I can. Besides Khan, your is the next best so far.
