Thanks a lot for your work! My favorite budget (octa)fuzz pedal (until now) is the Behringer Ultra Fuzz. It's amazing both its genealogy and the sounds you can get from the setting Fuzz 1, beautiful octafuzz, even better than the Boss fz-5 Octavia mode. Cheers !

Nice sounds! I picked one up based on this vid. It difinetly has some spit, spatter and ripping velcro sounds inside it. It doesn't respond to guitar volume the same way a Fuzz Face would but as a distinctive Fuzz effect it's pretty cool.

Yes, I think both the Ram's Head and Triangle doubles nicely as early era fuzz. However, a Big Muff isn't quite a fuzz so to my ears, a fuzz, like the Rusty, would be more suitable for the 68-75 tones.

I used the Rusty Fuzz on a clip we did for our band ‘Cork Floyd’ on Facebook. The short we did was the chorus and solo from ‘Mother’. As pedals go it is excellent and I also own BJ Butlers, Vintage Muffs and Fuzz Faces but this pedal along with its brother the ‘Honey Pot’ give the right amount of compression and drive. Thanks for reviewing it, take care. Dave

You always nail David's phrasing! I think that's the key to sounding like him. The delay is also a big key to getting a Gilmour tone. How do you set up your delay for achieving a realistic Gilmour tone? What delays do you use?

I have an emulated tone that uses uses a germanium drive that appears to he modeled after the Chandler Germanium Drive. That tone can get a decent Gilmour tone. I'd say it's about 75-80% close to any given song from DSoTM or the Wall.

Great video as always Bjorn! I'm planning to purchase one already but was wondering if it is that kind of temperamental fuzz that has to always go first. I'm planning to boost it with a TS type pedal. Have you encountered any problems with signal chain placement?
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial Жыл бұрын
It should go first as fuzz pedals just sound better when they can "see" your pickups. It will respond more to your playing and if you want to clean it up withe guitar volume. That being said, this one is not as sensitive to buffers as the more vintage style fuzz pedals.
@Zilmayjaink
@Zilmayjaink Жыл бұрын
@@gilmourishofficial well, I can live with that because I'm not that cleaning the fuzz with guitar volume kind of guy and more of a sputtery chaotic over the top crazy sustain lead lines kind of fuzz guy xD so it might work in that regard. Thank you for your time man!

As always, great demo! I swear, I think you could demo a half broken box of rocks and get it to sound like Gilmour! I’ve had my eye on this pedal for awhile, then got distracted. Two questions- does it clean up decently (ex: “Money”), and does it play nice with others? Getting some fuzz pedals to play well with some overdrives has been an issue for me, especially at playing in a small bedroom/rec room setup. Thanks again, Bjorn!
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a silicon transistor fuzz, which doesn't clean up as well as germanium. Depends on the pickups though. You can roll off some of that gain on low output passive single coils. It can handle buffers etc but how it sound with other pedals, stacked, depends on what pedals and how much gain you use.
@chrisradzion2148

@@gilmourishofficial thanks for the reply! I’m using a Mooer Blue Faze at the moment (bc108 Fuzz Face clone), and it’s ok, but I feel I need something a little better, especially volume wise. I should probably just save up and get one of those Dunlop Hendrix Micro Fuzz Face pedals (they are the same size as the Mooer, but you can switch between silicon and germanium, and it has a buffer option), but they’ve become harder to find and are about $175 US. That’s it of my budget right now, unless I get lucky like I did with my PowerBoost and find a used one on the cheap. The Rusty Fuzz might be a good option for me. Thanks again!

WOW, GREAT Pompeii tone! That pedal seems to be a "filtered" fuzz...like it does the (hard) job of emulating greater setups (fuzz into OD or cranked amp, with lots of variables). Now, considering that this pedal may not be affordable in some countries, is there another fuzz that comes closer to Rusty's?

The Rusty Fuzz has considerably more gain compared to a Fuzz Face. It's somewhere between a Fuzz Face and Tone Bender. This one also got a bit of low end and mids, which takes it closer to a Sovtek era Big Muff. Unlike most fuzz pedals, the Rusty can be placed anywhere within the board.

Hi Bjorn, since we are already on the subject of TC, I wanted to ask you, do you think that the tape mode on the TC Electronic Flashback is a good replacement for a Dawner Prince Boonar when it comes to replicating an Echorec? I am thinking about buying the Flashback as my next pedal, so I can do multiple types of delays.
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on how picky you are. I don't think the quality of the signal or tone is as good, and the Boonar has much more features when you dig into it, but the Flashback has some really nice tones and you can tweak it further with the Tone Print feature. Hard to beat for the price. It's worth checking out the EHX Canyon as well. Very similar to the Flashback but it has an overall more organic sound.

If you have the TC FB2, then you can get the toneprints of the TC AlterEgo (Proguitarshop collaboration) which (I think) have recently been made available as toneprints and include at least two Echorec toneprints. I think this toneprint availability was announced in their video for the latest firmware update of the TC Plethora X5. I use the AlterEgoV1 ER setting and I like it. It's got chorus in it. The AlterEgoV2 has 2 ER settings, also with chorus and are slightly different. The regular FB2 tape setting is ok but more like neutral subtle delay. The EHX Canyon is not stereo BTW but maybe the deluxe version is.

I used to have the Behringer clone of the FZ-3. It certainly did sound good, but it didn't really clean up when you backed off the volume on the guitar. Probably because of the Boss style input buffer. How well does this one clean up?
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
This is a silicon transistor fuzz, which doesn't clean up that well. Germanium transistors are much more responsive to the guitar pickups and volume.

@@gilmourishofficialOkay. Thanks. It's so cheap I could afford to get two and dial one in for the low gain overdriveish sounds and one as a full on fuzz.

Was it the SF300? I have that one; it’s based on the Boss FZ2 Hyper Fuzz, which is based on the old Super Fuzz. It really doesn’t clean up at all, lol! I think they did make a FZ3 clone, but those are harder to find, at least in my neck of the woods. I’d imagine the FZ3 doesn’t clean up great either, but is slightly better than the FZ2/ SF300.

@@gilmourishofficial But say, compared to something like the EHX Green Russian, how much of a diference is there? I'd expect it to be somewhere in between germanium fuzz and a Muff, but already having a Russian, another uncleanable fuzz would be redundant for me. Thanks, great video as always!

The 'pompeii fuzz' sounds fantastic. What do you think can make closer tones to Gilmour fuzz tones - Boss DS-1 or this one?

Probably the Rusty Fuzz. It has a nice vintage flavour and it seems to be working well with most amps and setups. The Rat is also a great option.

I see people mentioning the SF300 Super Fuzz, which, while a GREAT pedal, has nothing to do with David Gilmour's guitar tone. Which is the whole point of the video.
