Honestly, I think both songs released are quite safe. Why doesn't Gilmour get together with other musicians? Why does he keep that uninteresting bass player around? Fine keep him as a hired gun for tours all those years but get in an artist to record something memorable for a while. And Gilmour recording with his daughter? Come one? Gilmour was the person who bet on Kate Bush. Why does it have to be a family member? Nepotism? Did this become a family album with Polly writing the lyrics as well? This is very disappointing.

Hello I have a question, how do you get nice clear audio when recording guitar, I use my voxac15c1x, cakewalk with my scarlets solo 3rd gen with a Shure sm57 and I can’t get clear audio it’s always sounds muddy/muffled ;( any tips? Thank you
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 күн бұрын
That depends on what you mean by muddy. Recording require a lot of practice and experimentation. A good place to start is to make sure you got a good tone in the room. Place the mic about 2 inches from the grille cloth on the amp and point it about where the speaker cone is glued to the speaker. Not dead centre but 2-3 off to the side. Move the mic closer to the middle or further away for more or less brigtness. Make sure you set the right pre amp volume on your sound card and DAW.

NGL I bought a RAT just cause I knew David used one on the division bell. It's an ultra flexible pedal though. There is no best RAT, they are all awesome and all will allow you to have a LOT of fun. I have 3 settings for mine, with the drive just above the 1st line and the filter about 65% up, I use that with single coils, reverb and delays for soundscaping. Then with filter a bit less an drive at the 2nd line for some 80s-90's DIO-esque stuff and then with the drive and filter both wayyyy up into my other distorted signal (TS and box of rock) to literally blow it up and make it sputtery.

I realized that any pedal can cover Gilmour tones, as long as it sounds nice. Because Gilmour does not A tone. He has a lot. Every time he plays, he plays different, with different setups, so... have fun with anything you got!

Hello Bjorn, Where would you put this pedal in your signal chain? I also have a Surface fuzz and Big Muff clone. Would it go before or after other dirt and boost pedals? Also, thank you for the work you put in to help everyone achieve their dream tones!

Thank you! I would place this after the gain effects - your fuzz and muff - using it as an EQ for those pedals. See the video and my settings when I'm using it with the Motherload. That should give you a start.

After having the pastfx power booster, and watching you a musty I went for the hi power as well which I must say immediately became my favorite pedal in my board. Now, I’m curious as to know where in the chain orde order I should place my boss rotary Rt20, should it go at the end after the delay and reverb, or before them? Any suggestions on what would work best? Thx a lot

The Dover is, as the name implies, based on Eric Johnson's Tube Driver tones, with his Marshall amps and usually with the bass and treble controls on the pedal rolled back to bring out the mid range. The Dover sound closer to a Tube Driver with more gain.

Definitely some kind of Leslie going on for the solo. But I disagree that’s on a fast setting. Seems quite slow and not too in your face. Excellent. Not nearly as pronounced as in any colour you like. I like how it builds in dynamic phrase by phrase but then, strangely, instead of keep going up the last few phrases are played more quietly. He almost brings it down. As if they brought the fader down in mixing 😂 Right where he keeps repeating the same note with that syncopated rhythm to it. It would have called for a crescendo to me. That sounds a bit strange listen after listen. Your mileage might vary. But a good relaxed solo and very appropriate for the track. The last notes are almost fragile in their nature when you hear that subtle chromatic descending lick right at the end. And then the song ends with the solo itself instead of a fade out. Interesting

Hey Bjorn, thanks for the great video! Speaking of the tube preamp stage of this unit alone, how would it compare to a real Binson’s preamp? A tube stage is always welcome in the chain 😁
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 5 күн бұрын
I don't have a Binson at hand so I haven't been able to do an A/B test. The Preamp on the Deluxe is pushing the input stage and adds a bit of saturation and compression. It makes the repeats sound a bit fatter and you can also turn everything down and just use the preamp to push the front end of your amp. It's not overly hot though so it's not a substitute for a booster pedal.

I've read many complaints about the solo on this song being clunky and badly played. I don't think so! I think the solo is very fitting to the song's theme of being insecure, feeling hopeless, sad and left behind. Some of the last few notes are not really in tune, which captures and conveys that feeling very well. Those are my two cents anyway.

The "obvious choice" is for David Gilmour to release his album however he pleases. One of the reasons I love him so much is because he does things in his own unique way, without any concern of what the audience (or the industry) expects.
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 6 күн бұрын
Well, I don't agree with that. About Face was a product of the record company wanting to groom David as a modern guitar hero, with strong control over the production and promotion. He had an unknown name in 1984 and made some bad decisions. I love that album and era though. Rattle That Lock is a confused attaempt at making a huge sounding Floyd style album and reclaim name you associate with Floyd. I think David was more concerned about what Roger did at the time, rather than making a good album. I went to the tour, saw him several times and thought both he and the band sounded amazing though. To me, his 78 solo album and On an Island are the only two solo albums where David sound relaxed and true to himself. Say what you will about the performance, production etc but he is not a flashy rock star. He has always been more comfortable with keeping things close and intimate. I love those tow albums mainly because they sound like David Gilmour. No one else. That's why I'm now beginning to have hopes for this new album. Based on the two singles, I can hear strong similarities with the 78 solo album and On an Island. A David Gilmour that is true to himself.

Good sounds, but much too expensive for my taste. But I anyway am no real Echorec fan, I prefer an Echoplex sound and this the Dunlop EP103 offers me at a fraction of the price of this pedal. Copying a typical, decades old Pink Floyd sound also makes no sense to me. What for?

Hey Bjorn, great demo. This is definitely great for the whole Echorec experience. But I do have a budget recommendation for Gilmour’s Echorec tones. Get a TC Electronic Flashback or Plethora and load up their Toneprint software on your computer or mobile phone. Under artists go to Andy Martin (he is the guitar player who demos pedals on the KZfaq channels of Reverb and ProGuitarshopDemos) and load his TonePrint “Alter Ego E REC 2” into one of your TonePrint slots on your TC device. This is the same Echorec sound that you can find on the Alter Ego V2 pedal, but now it's available to every Flashback and Plethora. To me, it sounds accurate.
