I just watched another video on echinacea plants and this person had an amazing way to remove the seeds. He put them in a coffee plastic container close the lid and cook it really hard. It was amazing he opened it up and the seats were all at the bottom of the container

Glad to know I can just broadcast them in the fall and not bust my brains out trying to sprout them in winter to plant out in spring.

Helpful! Thank you. About getting the seeds- You can drop the heads into a container with a tight lid and shake it. Seeds will fall right out.

Thank you Scarlet it's very hard to discern where the seed is in the echinacea dried pod. However you helped a lot by giving a very close shot of the actual seed. Thank you

Thank you for explaining what is and isn't a seed. I wasn't entirely sure. I'm glad we don't need the brown part. I think the wind or birds got a lot of mine over fall/winter.

Scarlet I was struggling to hear you. Your microphone needs to be closer I think. Can you do a video on when and how to sow echinacea seeds and what are the best time and conditions to sow them? I just found your channel and subscribed.

I love your channel! Beautiful garden! I hope you will find the time to paint something from your or your mothers garden, a watercolour video if you can some time. All of your channels are the best I can wish for, as I love gardens (sadly I do not have any myself), plants and flowers, watercolours and animals! Thank you for all your lovely videos! : )

Thats so nice to hear! thank you. I've been working on getting episodes ready in in cue for the homesteading channel. Once I have enough of them done I'll start working on my watercolor tutorials again. And then some time in Feb. I hope to start some seeds indoors so they're ready to use in seeds episodes this spring. Happy Solstice!! Scarlett

Will these broadcasted seeds bloom next year or do they skip a year? Can you broadcast in mulch, or do they need to get into the soil?

Hi I don't think my previous comment came to you. I've been watching your lobelia seed collecting video and I'm particularly interested in seeing a close view of a seed pod. I'm a botanical artist and this seed pod is the last piece in one of my paintings. It doesn't seed in the UK sadly. Would you be able to kindly take a few crisp clear photos of the large flower variety pods for me? I need to see the whole form including the bits and pieces of petal still attached please. Thank you, Jackie

I have my volume cranked up to 150% and can barely hear you.. I'll have to put my headphones on to hear what you're saying. Not sure if you edit your videos now since this video is old but you could add a volume increaser in your video editor (if using a decent free video editor like Cinelerra, or Avidemux.) I personally use Kdenlive (for Linux) and I think these programs are also available for Windows. Its easy to do. Just select the segments of the video you want to increase the volume and add the increaser. You can then adjust the level of loudness to where you want it. Audio is a hard thing to edit but increasing the volume is the easiest. After a while you may turn into an audiophile and learn how to filter out background sounds so you just hear yourself. Its really an art and addicting once you get into it. Its a good talent to acquire because a simple plane, car, lawn mower can ruin an entire video.

I bought the seeds but from what I’ve read they need to be cold stratified before I can plant them in my garden. Do you have any tips for doing this?
@HowToGrowAGarden
@HowToGrowAGarden 5 жыл бұрын
I never stratify mine. And they come up with without issue. I’ll do a video on starting echinacea seeds soon. 😊

How to Grow a Garden with Scarlett Damen that would be wonderful thank you. If I plant the seeds in my garden they’ll grow this season?
@UKtilly
@UKtilly 5 жыл бұрын
I think If you plant them out when they are naturally falling then you can trust that nature will do its thing when it comes to stratifying them. ( assuming you get a winter )

When seedlings emerge in the Spring, do they require thinning or does Mother Nature determine which seedlings make it to maturity?
@GalenWillettMusic

I don’t know, but how about this: leave them be until they start to compete for light, then choose some to transplant elsewhere. And maybe even divide them.

Can you make a video on how to start trees from seed? Also Id like to gorw cappers but are a bit exotic for here, I couldn't germinate not one seed on my first try.

Sure. In the past I’ve grown mango, pear, apple, peach and lemon trees from seed. When we moved I started a new mango tree. It’s currently sitting on my desk. It’s 11 months old and 8 inches tall. I’ll post a picture on facebook for you. facebook.com/howtogrowagarden

I still didn't get when I should start to grow the seeds. I am in Vancouver. Can I plant them NOW (late of Sep) Do I need to frozen th seeds or just fridge them for a few days?
@HowToGrowAGarden
@HowToGrowAGarden 4 жыл бұрын
You can scatter the seeds when you harvest them (now) and you can plant them in the spring. Echinacea doesn’t require cold to germinate. I like to scatter some and start the rest on pots in the new year. They are very slow growing in their first year but by the second year they’ll definitely flower and self seed if grown in a sunny location. 😁
