As you get better with flicking, I think it’s important to try and develop a light touch with it. With most of my Spydercos, I’ve gotten to the point where I flick and they have just enough momentum to engage reliably. If you wanna minimize wear and tear on your stop pin and pivot, it’s either the thumb roll (which is smoothly satisfying in its own right) or a light flick. The second takes some practice and in the field, I usually just thumb roll…but I think it’s worth it…I probably have 40 Spydercos and the only one that’s showing some stop pin wear is my para 3 lw because that’s my dedicated “I’m just gonna flick this thing” knife.

I tried flicking the knife out and dropped it. Stabbed my foot... Blood everywhere. I'm an idiot :/ I gotta say though, the PM2 is crazy sharp and made very clean cut into my foot. Great vid! lol

I seriously don't know if this is click-bait or if you really didn't know how most people use the thumb hole. A tip on when you flip it, either if its middle finger or thumb: crimp up on the pocket clip with your little- and ring finger and hold your thumb over the pivot. It's a much more secure grip then just pressing the knife into your hand with the thumb.
@rugdman

Ya, I'm a noob. Only ever seen anyone use that hole to Spydie Flick or open it slowly with the thumb. Just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else who didn't know.

@@rugdman it can be tricky to execute though if you try to flip it sideways, so good with a tutorial. Guess I was just a bit disappointed when I didn’t learn a new way to deploy 😂

Got the para 3 in this morning! First knife :). Couldn't spidey flick but practiced a little throughout the day and I now got it down. The trick for me was focusing flicking my middle finger towards the right half of the hole

I have the para 3 but the action is pretty stiff / sticky. Is getting smoother action just a matter of breaking it in? How? Opening and closing it 1,000 times?? I don't really want to loosen any screws.... Thanks!
@rugdman
@rugdman 2 жыл бұрын
Id give it a few days of fidget time and make sure your flicking it right bit if it really is sticky maybe just a little looser in the screws would help. For me it ended up just being bad technique.

@rugdman

Looks like you can get them here but I haven't ordered from there myself. www.knivesplus.com/titanium-replacement-clip-screw-spyderco-para-military-yojimbo-knife.html.html Might also right spyderco and see if they will send you some replacements. Best of luck and keep us posted on where you get those replaced.

Etsy is also a good source you can find many factory or custom screws from anodized titanium to normal steel. And you can upgrade your para military with scales back spacer and a lanyard bead when you are already there. ;)

I always use my thumb to open my knives ... BUT , I see there are people that said you need to hold the knife and be able to flick open with each finger ....! ! ! Took a little practice , but now I can do it with each finger and thumb in both the tip up and tip down hold.

Does the pivot need to loosen before you can flick it? Or need adjusted?
@rugdman
@rugdman Жыл бұрын
I would try to break it in with a few days of flicking first and make sure your technique is good before I jump to loosening the pivot. But if you still feel like it's too tight after that then ya, adjusting the pivot might help.

Keep at it. May have to tweak your grip a bit with a longer handle. Try choking up a bit higher to shorten the reach.
@djadis187
@djadis187 2 жыл бұрын
Back locks are usually harder to flick. You can try leaving the blade open at a 90° angle for a while ( a week or so to start) to weaken the spring a bit. It'll eventually loosen just enough to "SpydieFlick"

Thanks man and great tip 👍I'm actually in the process of building my own know. A buddy of mine has a forge and we were able to get a blank of a little chopper out of some spring steel from an old truck. All the nuances of middle finger flicking are definitely captured. That thumb position is major. If the thumb isnt providing that anchorage to flick from you will launch your Spyderco knife out of your hand, blade partially deployed into the street or worse... a person. Great video!

If you’re so worried about how you look carrying, maybe move to a country where it won’t be such a problem. You also possibly won’t die, or go to jail for 25+ years, for shooting somebody out of self defence, but the judges disagree. You can fight stupid with stupid, but it just ends up stupid. Hope ya make a good choice

Can't comprehend any reason to care about this opening technique. Spidercos suck for the most part. This must be a yuppie thing that city folk can do with high priced knives since they don't need to cut anything. Half of my edc folders are automatic push button for easy one hand open and close. The knives I carry are used for cutting jobs about 25 times a day. More importantly being open & sharp is their only best feature.
@rugdman
@rugdman 2 жыл бұрын
Can't get push button here in NY so an easy way to flick the knife open helps. Don't get me wrong... ya, sometimes I use it as a fidget tool... but it also gets used to cut things and is pretty good at staying sharp as well as being easy to sharpen.

I love all these methods of getting your knife out and then the action did involve odd contortions of your hands and fingers and not fully grasping the knife in the first place. Under stress or a tactical situation, a self-defense grapple, etc,…. you had BETTER have a GODAMNED good fucking, FULL grip on that goddamn knife and know how to get it open without all that fancy tactiCOOL bullshit
