How to spot a fake just by looking at pictures.
Counterfeit knives are a growing problem that not only undermines the integrity of genuine products but also have a significant impact on the economy. These fake knives, often made in China, are nearly identical to their US-made counterparts and are sold at a fraction of the cost. However, these counterfeit knives are often made with inferior materials and construction, which can lead to dangerous situations and can put the lives of the users at risk.
The production and sale of counterfeit knives not only harms the legitimate knife manufacturers and sellers but also harms the economy. It also creates an uneven playing field for legitimate businesses and can lead to lost sales and revenue for them.
Consumers should be aware of the risks associated with purchasing counterfeit knives and take the necessary steps to ensure they are purchasing genuine products. This includes buying from reputable sellers, checking for signs of authenticity, such as holograms or serial numbers, and being wary of products that are priced significantly lower than the market price.
As a society, we must take the issue of counterfeiting seriously. It's not just a matter of losing money, but also a matter of safety, and it's essential to support the legitimate businesses and companies, who invest in research, development and quality assurance.
PARA MILITARY 2 G-10 BLACK PLAINEDGE C81GP2
Undeniably one of Spyderco’s most popular and in-demand designs, the Para Military 2 distills the world-class performance of our legendary Military Model into a more compact, pocket-friendly package. Not content with that feat, it then added the extreme strength, reliability, and ease of use of our Compression Lock mechanism and the versatility of a four-position pocket clip.
The resulting synergy is far greater than the sum of its parts and, to many end users, represents the ultimate folding knife design. To push the performance envelope even further, this model features CPM S45VN blade steel and textured black G-10 scales.

PARA 3 G-10 BLACK/BLACK BLADE C223GBK
The Para 3 folding knife packs all the time-tested features and functionality of Spyderco’s iconic Para Military™ 2 into a smaller, easier-to-carry format. For tactical end users who are concerned about light discipline or those who just prefer the look of a black blade, the Para 3 is now available with a tough Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) blade coating. This low-profile coating is permanently bonded to the premium CPM® S45VN™ stainless steel blade, which features a full-flat grind, a PlainEdge™ cutting edge, and a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ for swift, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. The blade is supported by a high-strength Compression Lock® mechanism nested within the handle’s textured black G-10 scales. Its easy-to-clean, open-backed handle construction reduces the knife’s weight, while providing a solid platform for a four-position hourglass clip that supports left and right-side tip-up or tip-down carry. Like the blade, the clip and all assembly screws are blackened with non-reflective coatings.

US brands simply need to stop overcharging. A Para 3 in D2 or 8CR13MOV I would 100% buy for 50-80$. 120$ plus for the lightweight and 160 plus for the G10 is insane. They are making enough of a profit on a 20-30$ knife with packaging then there's no excuse for Spyderco.

Totally agree! Today China produces nice copies - 9Cr18Mov, G10, ballbearings.., only for 20-25$... Yeah, the original one is better, but the price is approx 200$ (in Europe)...

You get what you pay for. I would rather pay $150+ for a better quality knife than $80 for something subpar. I guess everyone’s different.

well. The quality of Chinese steel cannot be considered good, like flipping coin. The quality of US steel is much better and the heat treatment is better than anything china does. Like you paid $200 for 8cr13mov and you know it is 8cr13mov, but you buy an 8cr13mov knife from China for $80, do you know it is real 8cr13mov? There are many knife brands in China with very high prices. You pay for prestige, not only the knife itself

Is that 100%? Because I just got a para 3 cruwear with the purple scales and my knife is identical to his. All except the position of “CPM cruwear”. Mines is really close to the left edge. But everything else is perfect. Oh and the package is off. I know he used the wrong box & papers cuz it doesn’t say cruwear & the gold logo is off. But it’s a used knife off eBay. I’m conflicted lol

i don't think that somebody who buys a fake 20 USD Spyderco causes any damage or loss because they would not have bought the original version due to the price. the fake Spydercos come in 440C and D2, older models in 8Cr. decent heat treatment surprisingly. of course the materials cannot compare, but fit and finish is fine and they do their job.

The damage is when someone buys a fake for over $200 when they think it is real. I just saw a fake $20 Demko knife bid up on eBay to over $200.

For the new market, clones only cause purchasing to be limited to authorized dealers. For me, the real damage is the 2nd hand market. Clones are now so close, that second hand, the risk makes all knives the value of a clone.

What the difference between getting an American Spyderco and a Chinese Spyderco?
@radusnyder4341
@radusnyder4341 Ай бұрын
Like a legitimate Chinese Spyderco/Byrd (they make knives all over the world) or clones? Real Chinese Spydies/Byrd are still held to a standard of good quality control, they have good grinds and serrations, but the steel is not as high grade usually, though they have done S35VN Tenacious, for example. They aren't as perfect in fit and finish as an American, Taiwanese, Japanese or Italian model. But they will serve reliably and sharpen easily. Fake Chinese Spyderco clones are unpredictable, no clue what the steel is, no clue about heat treatment or temper. Action doesn't compare in my experience. And they're stealing the research and development that Spyderco put in for these knives to be created. So, they feel gross.

The new fakes have been getting better. Some have even starting to accuse older Pm2 models as fake, just because the lasers edging and quality was off slightly. You can still tell them apart by the quality. The original always looks sharper on the metal edges and the fakes look soft and more organic. I have a original CMP S90V PM2 from 2010. It also has a more faded brownish spider logo. Depends on the age and the steel.

Doesnt spyderco have a chinese made line ? Actually on their website forumn there are discussion on the difference in their chinese, Taiwan, usa, and italian models ….most say chinese is basically just “less” fit and finish but otherwise same quality ,same quality of metals (which is the important part imo ) ..I don’t know anything about fakes ,which is sort of why im watching this i guess but your black knife comparison didnt seem too different …the second set were two different metals ..meaning I don’t know if two different blades makes for good comparison…..so now im totally tortured trying to figure which spyderco to get 😂

C'mon, the proudly made in USA argument doesn't hold water anymore. The fact is that many genuine Spyderco models are indeed made in China like the Tenacious, Resilience, Persistence and many others. And while the genuine PM-2 is US made and comes with better steel, it's frankly terrible value for money considering the overinflated price. So yes, the Chinese clones make a lot of sense, even if the steel are a little sus, it's still excellent value for the money. Besides, nobody in their right mind is going to believe they are actually buying the real thing at fifty bucks or less, right? 🤨
