Yup, the perfect teacher that we all needed, but let's not fish the rivers to extinction now that us noobs are so quickly learning. Catch and release boys! Once I learn to be a monster at catching steelhead and trout (already getting a lot of trout, they seem a lot easier than bass tbh, like a looot easier), I shall begin making some cool underwater fish behavior and catching videos, can't wait, going to mess around with the idea tomorrow as I catch trout in an ultra clear river thats tucked away and has no current so I can place my camera in there). There are some youtubers doing this already btw, should check out the underwater footage, it helps a ton to learn about the fish.

Great explanation on working a spinner. I also was on a trip with friend in his drift boat fishing Summer Steelhead. He anchored in a spot and told me to tie on a small spinner. There was a big boulder in the river across from us. He had me cast out towards the boulder. My spinner swung in and around that boulder and I hooked two Steelhead that were holding on the bottom of the boulder on the edge of the current. Years ago I met Ermie Walters who was a legend on the Alsea River. We talked and he gave me some tips that I have used every since. One was to work sort of like in the video in a spot for maybe 15 minutes then move down. Moving depends on if the river is wall to wall with people on the bank. Make your way down river hitting different spots. Then a key point. Ermie told me the fish are not always in a position for you to present your lure or bait. Now work your way back and hit all of those same spots and you have better odds of hooking more fish. I have done that and it works. Another key point someone else made and this works when the river is crowded with people. Don't use a color or lure like everyone else is using. Likely the Steelhead have seen that lure or whatever over and over and ignore it. A friend and I walked into a crowd of people. My friend got a spot but no where for me. I just stood there and watched. I noticed everyone just about using a Pink Pearly Corkie because someone hooked a fish on that color. I tied on a Root Beer colored Go glow. Someone decided to take a break and told me I can fish their spot. I made maybe ten casts and worked the water close and out more each cast. Fish on. Then a guy started yelling to the guy that was in the spot that I got a fish in his spot. I landed it nice 10 pound Steelhead. I kept hearing that guy got that fish in your spot. It was more then just being in that spot.

I literally searched for this video on your channel on Tuesday before hitting the sandy lol. After a couple unsuccessful hours of floating some beads, I threw my blue fox #4 on my line and went to work. Got about 20 minutes in before the treble hook hit a snag I was unable to get out of. Thanks for the tips and rundown, I look forward to going in with all this awesome knowledge next time. I'll catch one soon enough!

Great spinner fishing video. I am a fanatical spinner fisherman. All the tricks he mentioned are spot on with me. Vary your length of cast so you cover all the run. The line twist swivel conflict is so true. I always want just the blade to turn, and with a swivel, you encourage the line to spin. One slight difference of opinion was the single hook. On some spinners that can cause the balance to be off and make the whole thing wobble and spin instead of just the blade. I also make my own silver-plated spinners and use round bend trebles just a tad weaker than my line so they will straighten. They can be straightened a few times, and then replace when ragged. I also find that the smaller ones can work really well to get through shallow gravel areas that sometimes can hold fish. But once again, excellent video.

Got a pretty good order of spinners from R&B last year. They are simply the best. If anyone is thinking about getting some for this 2022 winter steelhead season I suggest you order now. They aren't the fastest company because they are a family business and do the spinner business in their free time.

@AngryMuffinMusic
@AngryMuffinMusic 2 жыл бұрын
There shouldn't be much or any cause only the blade should spin, not the body of the spinner. Its not a spoon.
@feegureeetout
@feegureeetout 10 ай бұрын
You need to keep the blade only spinning. Eventually, twist will happen. When it does cut you lure off and send the whole line downstream. That usually removes all the twist so you are good for quite a while. Also let the spinner hang from the rod end as much as possible every so often to unwind the last few feet, which is where most of the twist happens.

I like to take blue fox spinners apart add some glass beads above and below the bell housing and put them back together with new shanks and sometimes hoochie skirts. I also use plastic beads on the high stress areas to prevent the glass beads from splitting. It really increases the effectiveness of the spinners and especially deadly for coho. 👍

Bro, perfect, I want to catch and release, so I had a horror movie kind of moment with a small trout and a treble hook that was triple hooked and the thing shook off while I fell into the water a bit lol, and yeah...feel so horrible about that, the little guy maimed himself. So, the fact that those side hooks are good for not snagging and are also single hook, is a perfect answer. Because I kind of see treble hooks as banned from now on in my eyes...

If ODFW would actually stock what they say rather than constantly shorting our community 1000's of pounds of fish, our citie's fishermen could fish. The site claimed 800 trophies to a local pond and they drop 200 8" trout, then unlicensed fishermen clean out the hole taking 30+ fish each. I ask how is there meat to eat on a fish so small? @@AddictedFishing Kansas. I wish. Some lakes round me stock rainbows. I know it's not nearly as fun though.

Lol, spot on info, right what I find myself needing to know as I get into this stuff. Here's one you might have trouble with, any recommendations for wading in these rock infested waters we have here? I know you are in the same rivers I am in, I can see it, and those rock fields are painful to traverse lol.
