Hey gramps, I’m a fluoro guy myself. I recently switched some of my spinning combos to braid/ fluoro leader for finesse. I use this too. Great & cheap idea to avoid a big headache for sure.👊

Great tip! I think Penn got it right with rubber directly on the reel. I'm surprised that hasn't become the norm.

Interesting to say the least. I have always steered away from braid for the reasons you mention here. I subscribed to see what other tricks you may have in your tackle box. Thanks for the information on the video.

yeah, I don't use braid for much like I used to. Heavy punching, frogs and one spinning rod when I need bright braid to see the line moving.

Awesome tip... still baffles me why not all companies have some rubber grip material on the spool to help out with this issue. I've seen a few saltwater reels use that - but it'd be a welcome addition in freshwater too. Thanks for sharing!

Braid has been around longer than 20 years. I was using it in the 80’s on my flipping stick and I know it was around years before I started using it.

funny thing for me is I've always been about the rod when it comes to spinning gear. I'd probably catch the same fish on a NASCI as I would a Stella.

Isn't there to much of a gap for the line to go over? Everyone says you should get the braid to 1/16 near the top of the spool?

I always tie on a leader when using braid. My preference is to just use straight fluorocarbon. Rocks fray and cut braid pretty easy.

The only time I use a mono backer is for a high capacity reel. Otherwise it has always been electrical tape.

I put braid on my spinning real and have it very tight but I still get wind knots. Is it because I have the drag set low?
@FishinWithGramps
@FishinWithGramps Жыл бұрын
drag is the setting that applies tension to the line when a fish takes it and starts to run. The drag system helps you control how much pressure the fish can put on the line without it breaking. Setting up your drag correctly will help keep the fish on the line for longer and ensure you don’t lose them due to accidental breakage.
@johnnicholson4862
@johnnicholson4862 Жыл бұрын
Often caused by having too much braid on the reel so it comes off the reel to fast. Fine balance between having sufficient so it comes off easily in order to get the max casting distance, but not too much to cause wind knots.
@Sweetaccord
@Sweetaccord Ай бұрын
It's cause the line you are using is too light and you either are using in a windy day or not but very light braid on windy day makes it worse. Step up a few lbs and the issue should dissappear. I was using 8 and had wind knots often. Went to 10~15lb and no more issues on same gear.

I want to ask a few questions about this type of fishing but first I will tell you my story... So I'm from Europe (Bulgaria) and I'm float fishing with 1g to 5g floats and tall 6meters bolognese rod on rivers. I'm catching chubs, barbells and a fish that name I don't know on English but we pronounced it skobar and with bulgarian letters it looks like this: скобар. Yesterday I bought a spinning rod with action 5g to 25g. And my questions are: can I catch pike and chub with this rod?(bc the guy in the store told me I can); what braid size should I get?; what reel size should I get (I think shimano fx is good choice of reel)?

Jeez, everybody overthinks and overcomplicates this. Just touch the end of the line to the center of the arbor. Then place a drop or two of superglue on it. Wait 30 seconds. Now go ahead and wind your line on. I've done it on reels from UL to big surf and offshore reels and the line holds absolutely tight.
