I might not be Granddad or Roland Martin but... I have had the BEST fishing using Algae formed into a ball around a bare hook than from ANY lure. FACT EDIT: Let me tell you how it works so you can see for yourself. Find a pond covered in algae. Take some and form it into a ball around a bare hook-Look Ma it's Weedless (No sinker and HEAVY LINE) Send that "Goo lure" out on top of the algae and Hop it across the surface of the algae...From the fish point of view it looks like a frog. The KEY thing to remember is to NOT stop hopping the goo lure UNTIL it hops onto the ground beside your feet!! >>> A 5 lb Bass EXPLODING at your toes is ALWAYS fun!! You can clean yer pants later.

Take the lure off your line and let the line drag out 100 yards or so behind a slow moving boat for a minute. Pinch the line and reel it back in. It removes any twist. Walking across the yard works too but not as well as the boat thing. Just dont let another boat cross your line! Dont ask me how I know that.

I suggest you try watching Tactical Bassin as just one fishing channel run by expert bass fishermen and they TEACH. It never insist you do anything exactly how they each prefer. They respect other people’s ideas and fishing situations. I grew up watching a Roland and the others that made Bass fishing a Billion dollar business back in the 1970s. The only thing about Roland is that even though he has a championship fisherman, he only does what Roland feels is best. He doesn’t keep up with anything new. He doesn’t seem to watch other fishing channels to see what is new. I know all these things, but respect zroland for all he did long before many new fishing techniques ever were thought of and the thousands of new types of lures, etc. I don’t know why he doesn’t use a line spooling gadget instead of trying to watch for line twists, or use Crazy Glue on everything instead of electrical tape strip to keep braid from slipping, or use a bit of mono as backing which doesn’t slip when tight, then tie on the braid. I’m not bashing Roland or disrespecting him and his methods of doing whatever he is showing his viewers. He also loves Yamamoto 297 green pumpkin color for his senkos and Ned rigs. Where I fish the water is algae stained year round with less than 6” of visibility. So I use braid for nearly everything direct to anything I’m using. My situation is very unique where the water has so mich surface commotion from ducks and Mullet jumping, the a bass ignore all topwater baits I found out after spending a ton of money buying a few of every type of topwater from buzzbait to spook and thousands of hours learning to fish each one properly. Not a single follow, swirl, or blowup. I’d love to see ANY pro try fishing topwater where I am and see what happens. If the bass bite, then I’ll know for sure I’m doing something wrong and can learn to correct it. But even though I’m willing to pay a fair rate to have any pro level fisherman come here and fish just to see what I’m doing right/wrong and what results the pros might get. Best wishes to everyone.

100% correct. I'd be concerned about the chemicals in the glue or after several respools, the repeatedl application of glue making sharp peaks & edges & cutting into the line.

Thank you very much Roland for honoring me by highlighting my comment and suggestions. I found every Bassmasters tournament beginning 1973 here on KZfaq and got to see you as I remembered from back then. I honestly had no idea you and so many other best Bass Anglers ever, had never won the championship. Wow?! It was awesome to see that list of each years tournament from 1973 through 1985 and I couldn’t keep going and had to watch something else. If I’m not asking for too much, I’d love to see you and a few others from that era have a friendly competition with your son’s generation and the under 30 top KZfaq anglers based on number of subscribers. What I think would be an amazing series of shows would be all three generations competing on whatever water you guys choose. BUT using gear YOU and others used prior to the invention of palm sized casting reels. The sonar/fish finder devices with no screen by Lowrance that were all ‘State of The Art’ in those early years. I found it very interesting that one of the required devices each boat had was an oxygen sensor. As you have mentioned often how Bass will be where the high oxygen areas of the lakes might be. It was so amazing to watch how this all began and how after the very first tournament in the late 1960s. The movement by everyone involved to catch and release the bass. Another topic you’ve mentioned in some of previous videos. Everyone was given the exact same boat with all exactly same equipment by the sponsors of those tournaments. Top prize was $15,000.00 winner take all. Then jumped to $25K and only the winner got the prize money. And then when RadioShack got involved giving 2-way radios to give updates during each days fishing instead of waiting until the end of each day to find out how the fishermen did. Thinking with how things are now and how they started at the pro level. Wow! But I think it would be a tremendous event that could be promoted big time to have the three pro bass anglers in a competition for prize money or just for bragging rights. I believe would be one heck of an event from every aspect and I believe it would be a massive series if shown on KZfaq. I hope I’m giving you some food for thought and if it might be possible, I’ll know I’d be glued to the screen watching the younger generations having to fish as it was done when you became a pro and what was state of the art. I think it might show which fishermen of any generation truly knows how to find the fish and ONLY have 10lbs of tackle and not more than two casting rigs and two spinning rigs. I honestly can’t imagine a better fishing series. I would be very interested to see if these overpaid pros with hundreds of sponsors will do what your generation was able to do in the mid 1970s.
