I'm just beginning to dip my toes into comic collecting and had been wondering all day what a 9.8 looks like and this video appeared in my recommended. Great video! Learned a lot. I think I'm going to be as strict as you are. May have found a single 9.8 in all the stuff I've purchased recently and all down from there. Definitely fun to inspect comics too and find those flaws.

Use the eraser on all the white areas on the thor cover…then it won’t be as noticeable that the luster is gone.

#6 siayyk. Biggest mystery question is torn corners, and what do they consider printer issues vs. damage in shipping of after it has left printer. It sounds like they would accept 1 small torn corner?

So what’s the difference between 10, 9.9, & a 9.8? I’ve seen some 9.6’s that should be a definite 9.8 and on the flip side I’ve seen some 9.8’s that should be 9.6! Especially with modern comics..good video presentation and I will definitely pre-screen my first batch to send to CGC. I have 2 copies of The Dark Age #1 &! I’m thinking 9.9 & 10 respectively corners are sharp with no spine ticks on that solid red cover

Can you do this for mid grade silver age books? You are very good at finding and identifying these issues.

@@economicsincomics I mean for grading older books even if they are lower grade. Just being able to identify a 2.5 from a 6.5 would be valuable.

Great video. Thanks for showing how you grade. The paper quality on marvel sucks. I sometimes see color breaks along the spin not ticks but spin. I worry that would prevent a 9.8?

Critique older books... books from the 90’s or 70’s.... I want to know what a 9.8 looks like in those decades and if a book is work buying when the cover is misaligned with the rest of the book and hangs over a bit and bends.

Corner area crease on spine side ( corner maybe a little bent) but not color breaking anywhere. I cant quite get it all out. There's really no video's that cover pressing limitations. Thanks for the reply

So pay the 5 bucks per book and have the books prescreened by CGC...

If the comic fails you get charged $5 and the comic is returned. If it passes you just get charged normal grading fee.

What about the color break on the very edge of the spine of the thor? I hAve several timeless covers that when black on the spine...like you mentioned because its printer...I wonder. Have you tried sending of those in yet?

The Justice League books, in particular, looked to have a lot a waviness to them. Is that an imperfection, and would those kinds of books get marked down?

How much does the spine effect the grade? I dont mean ticks on the cover, I mean along the fold of the cover, sometimes the color breaks, does it effect the grade if it's only along the crease and the cover is flawless? I never see anyone talk about this

@@economicsincomics Does it knock it out of 9.8 window? I find it's really almost impossible to find a marvel book without SOME color break at the fold of the cover ... I would very much like to send in some books, but this has given me pause ... and as I said no one talks about it

The light was really showing the wave on some. Answer: I think they would pass but a quick press would most definitely take that out easy.

Depends on how bad. What you saw in vid was not extreme but light made it look like that. A quick press will fix easy

Marvel uses such crappy paper. It's hard to get 9.8 or 9.6. They are always full of spine ticks and bumps
