Is your Seresto collar real? Dr Rogers shows ways that you can spot a fake Seresto collar. If something online looks to good to be true, it probably is.

To anyone who has indoor cats and carpet There is a way to get rid of the fleas in your home. Sprinkle boric acid all over your carpets Use a broom to brush the powder in Wait a couple of days and vacuum your carpet and you may need to do the same to your sofas and chairs if they are fabric Most of the fleas in your home are in your carpets as worm like larvae that eat dust mites . When you contaminate their nursery There will be no more fleas.

Thank you so much for this video, I think you saved a lot of owners & there fur babies. I bought a collar I thought was a real one my dog luckily only god of small wound that thankfully I had noticed in time before it got worse. I've heard so many horrible things about these collars I don't understand how they get their hands on what looks like a real tin and put fake collars in and seal them up. I will say this please guys if you get a collar from Walmart or Hannaford's double-check to make sure that it's legit. The one that I found out was not legit was Hannaford's and I do know for a fact that Walmart can sell fake ones as well. You would think that there would need to be a lot of evidence before putting these out for people to buy. I've heard dogs and cars dying because the collar is fake.

Hi doctor. I put the collar on my dog maybe a week ago. I noticed that he had pain around his neck when I would rub him and even his ears. Would sneeze etc. he also has a collapse Trachea. So I figured I would take it off. Then I just so happen to look into this collar and I’m sick seeing the recall. I have him a bath. He no longer jumps when I touch his neck. He is not vomiting. No diareah no sneezing. No pain in throat. Do you want think there is long term side effects from this? I bought it at petsmart. Thanks so much. He’s acting normal. I’m just scared now. I’ll call his vet but just wondering if you can answer as well. I’m a nervous wreck

I just bought a pair of these on Amazon, and they both have the same number on the cans. That's a LOT number, not a serial number. Now I don't know if they're real or fake, but they weren't cheap! Now I don't want to break the seals unless I have some way to determine where there's an actual SERIAL number, not a LOT number.

Just a note: Elanco bought Bayer in 2020 for 7.6 Billion, so this information is now wrong. Well meaning, but incorrect. The can, for example, now has the Elanco logo on it. BTW, I did once get a fake Seresto from Amazon, very disappointing, and it made my then dog very sick, so your advice on that is 100% legit. I'll never buy another from Amazon. I bought this one from Walmart. It does still have the matching serial numbers, it also comes in a theft and tamper resistant packaging that's nearly impossible to open. It doesn't have the Bayer symbol of course. However, it does have that distinctive clean Seresto smell. The fake one I bought smelled like permethrin. And, like you said, $60.

Thank you for this video! I just bought a new Seresto online and got concerned about its veracity. The one that I bought was made in Germany to be sent to USA. It came without the reflectors. An issue that I found in the collar was that It doesn't have the Bayer logo on it, and when I cutted the loose edge after placing on my dog´s neck there was a small air bubble on the middle of the collar. In the leaflet I found a word that might be spelled wrong, ctenocephalides canis, that should be spelled with a capital C. (Ctenocephalides canis). Also in the leaflet is always specified for dog above 8 kg (I guess because was made in Germay), But in the metal box its specifies in Kg and Lbs. However the serial number in the metal box, plastic bag and the collar matches, although in the metal box number there is an "0" and in the plastic bag and collar´s number looks more like a "O". Does anyone have any thoughts if this could mean that I have a fake collar? Thank you very much!!

I'm in a similar position but I'm in Spain. Like you it came without the reflectors (only instructions) and no Bayer logo on the collar. Talking to someone at Elanco, the new owners, they said they no longer stamp the collar with the Bayer logo because they are not Bayer but they still sell it in a Bayer tin? (need to get a better answer from them on that). They were also unable to verify if the serial number was genuine (I bought 2 from an online pet store and they BOTH had the same numbers) which seemed odd. I went to a vet and bought another one at their price (€42, online ones were €26 inc postage) and they look almost identical. Same tin, same paperwork, same bag. The only slight differences I can see is the €42 one looks a slightly lighter grey and the serial number is slightly larger and darker. I am going to contact Elanco again for pictures of genuine collars as so far they have said "Our collars are grey and come in a tin" which is of no help at all. Even asking them if it was possible to get two collars with the exact same number, they couldn't answer. Interestingly, at the vets they also had two collars with identical numbers so I've got two conclusions, they are all genuine or they are all fake. tbc

Sos. I ordered 3 Seresto collars. Two of my kits didn't have any reaction - worked great. But my third baby had an awful reaction. Much like a chemical burn(?) on his neck. Did this happen because it was a fake? Or does my cat react differently to chemicals? Any case, is there any flea and tick cat collar that won't cause a chemical burn reaction? (I'm assuming it was a chemical burn. There was a patch on his neck that was missing fur that oozed and pussed all nasty things within maybe 3-4 days of putting the collar on him. This was almost a year ago, and his fur has grown back and is back to normal. Just glad I caught it 😓) If you, or anyone, have any suggestions that would be great. Tis the season!

The dog has to wear it all the time for it to work. Put it on and leave it on. They are safe. There are millions sold around the world. But if you feel uncomfortable don’t use it and find another product. The bottom line is to use YEAR round flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

*What brought me here, is seeing these very expensive collars selling all over eBay for around $15, which is only 1/4 of what they normally cost. **_There is only one logical explanation... they're FAKE, and we all know where they're coming from!_* *It's not at all hard to imagine that an overseas company that manufacturers the shipping tins for the real thing, also manufactures a whole bunch of extra tins for "others" to use. Americans are largely unused to American companies behaving this way, so a lot of people get fooled buying worthless counterfeit products or even worse, dangerous knockoffs that could actually kill or sicken pets or family members. Remember, if something looks too good to be true, it usually is! I'm highly disappointed in eBay to so blatantly allowing this to happen.*

My mom and I got taken in back in Aug/Sept this year by fakes. We had never used Seresto before, but decided to try them on the recommendation of a friend of mine who works in the vet industry due to ongoing issues with fleas and tapeworms despite treatments. My mom found an online seller that offered 3 collars for $60. We have 3 cats, so it was perfect... or so we thought. Found out they were going to take about 2 weeks to arrive, because they were coming from China. Annoying setback, but we didn't think much of it. We get the collars and put them on. Everything seems fine, flea issue seems sorted, tapes issue seems sorted (treated those with Profender). Couple of weeks ago, we notice there's flea dirt still on the chin of one of the cats. Then I notice a couple of fleas here and there on 2 of the cats, one on my bathroom floor, and one on my computer desk. Earlier this week, I noticed a return of the tapeworms segments. Mom said something last night about having possibly gotten fake collars. So I did some digging, and first found a video comparing packaging for the dog collars between fake and real. Couple of points they made matched up to what I had seen on the tins for our cat collars, so I did some more digging to see if I could find something more specific to cats. Found a good video comparing the fake vs real cans for the cat collars, and HOLY CRAP did they match up almost identically. The woman in the video doesn't go into the labels on the backs of the cans except to point out the serial number on the back. It -looks- like the label on the back of her real collar's can is printed right on the can (as in the video w/ the dog collars for the fake ones; the can for the real ones for the dog collars had the label on the back as a sticker), which matches up to our cans. But here's a listing of the things covered in that video that I noticed with our (fake) collars' cans; aside from the bag the collars themselves came in, because we threw those away after putting the collars on the cats. -The collar printed on the can (while not nearly as bad/obvious as it was in the dog video I watched) has one or two places where the top edge of the collar has a little hump to it, barely noticeable even if you're looking for it. The 'tail' part of the collar looks wavier on my can than on her real one and the bottom corner of the 'tail' looks like it comes down farther on mine than on her real one which took a bit of fiddling with the video and doing it frame by frame to be sure on. -The reflectors for what we now know are our fake ones came in the plain little ziploc style baggies instead of the sealed ones you have to cut/tear open w/ the printed-on choking hazard warning. We only had those still b/c we decided not to use the reflectors b/c our cats don't go outside except onto a screened-in back patio, so we didn't see the need for those. -The inside of the can lid looks to be closer to the darker orange of the fake one she showed, and is almost mirror-like in its reflectiveness just like that one. -There is NOTHING printed or stamped on even ONE of the collars we bought. Nor were there serial numbers on the backs of the cans. -I can't compare the vibrancy (yet) of the info inserts and the stickers between fake and real as far as vibrancy, but the overall look of the stickers and paper inserts we have look identical to what she had for the fakes. As best I can tell though, the numbers on her fake sticker are identical to the ones we have on both of our fake ones. (Top row: 84593028, bottom row: V-01/2015). They also don't match the numbers on the can at all. Her paper info insert to the fake one is the same picture as what's on ours. (Not sure if that's significant or not, b/c she had a newer can as well with the stamped/raised lettering for the brand name.) -We don't have the real ones yet to compare the can pictures too, but the overall look of the covers for what we have match up to her fake one. The cat looks about the same to me, but the background part is darker. We can really see the blue of the background vs the almost white on the can she showed for the real ones for the side by side. Something else I noticed is that one of the 3 cans we have has a lighter and perfectly straight looking collar printed around the outside. On the other 2 you can see the warping, and it's a darker grey. I'll update when we get our new ones, so I can compare known real to the fakes better. We got lucky and none of our cats had an adverse reaction to the collars, and had it not been for them not lasting as long as advertised we would never have known the difference! I wish we'd seen these comparison videos much sooner, but we know now. We have new collars on order from Wal-Mart to be picked up, and I will be meticulous in comparing and examining the packaging and examining the collars themselves when we get them before we put them on our 3 boys. If possible, I'll make sure they get examined at the store before we even leave it.

@@completecareanimalhospital You're welcome! And yeah, it does. Unfortunately the perpetrators of such actions rarely face any real consequences too. We bought our replacement collars from Wal-Mart rather than the vet, but I inspected all three before we put them anywhere near our boys. And in addition to the stamped serial numbers on the collar and cans, the bottom of the real ones had a sticker not something printed directly on the metal, and the collars themselves had little tag things of the same material keeping it rolled up which we had to pull off before putting them on the cats. The fakes didn't have that. The fakes were definitely much flimsier feeling than the real collars, too.

@@runawayushould the article that is making its rounds is really inaccurate. If your pet has been wearing a Seresto collar without incident there is no reason to think that there would be a sudden reaction. The article also referenced chemicals that have nothing to do with Seresto. It also doesn’t take into account the huge amount of fraudulent collars that people buy thinking they are Seresto when they are fake. Who knows what ingredients are in the fake collars. And finally, there was no background information on the dog that was referenced in the article and the owner declined a post mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death. It is important that these questions get asked, and we all only want the best for our beloved pets. If you are ultimately uncomfortable with using any product speak with your vet ASAP about alternatives, but don’t just stop using preventative products

Yes it is poison. For insects. Not all animals react to compounds the same way. Consider chocolate.

Please don't use this collar on your dogs and cats, there have been so many reports of death caused by the seresto collar. Find a collar with natural ingredients like "Brerie" collars or make essential oil sprays at home.

Many of the reports are likely from fake collars that people are buying from online sources. Essential oils are not always safe either, and unfortunately don’t work for protect against fleas and ticks.

So far all of the reports cited by EPA in their article are from consuimers. There hasn't been any scientific evidence to confirm any of these reports. There are a lot of bad actors out there and it's not unheard of that competitors would flood an agency with these types of "consumer" complaints to try to discredit a product.
