The Stab scratch is one of my most favorite scratches because of its versatility, and funkyness.

► SCRIPT:
It's a very important scratch to learn because the sound it makes is so distinguishable and so easy to do. Once you get the hang of it, this scratch can sound really really good. It's all about platter and crossfader movement, moving in sync with each other.
If you were going to master one scratch, this would definitely be it.
Now before we begin, it is very important for you guys to first know how to do the baby scratch and forward scratch. If you don’t yet, don’t worry, there are tutorial video links in the description section below. Those tutorials will also give you insight on how to use a crossfader and it’ll also teach you how to adjust your computer and controller settings for scratch.

Stab Scratch Explanation:
The Stab scratch is pushing the platter forward quickly, and cutting the sound of the pull back. The difference between this and the forward scratch, is that you don’t let this sample play. You push the platter forward to hear that sound, and only that sound. No pull backs.
So there are 5 steps to learning this scratch
Step 1:
1. Locate the sample. We want to always begin our scratches at the start of the sample
2. Push the platter forward quickly
3. Put the crossfader into the off section. I’m scratching on the right side, so I’m off section is on the left side
4. Pull back the platter to the very beginning while the crossfader is in the off section
5. Put the crossfader back to the on position

Remember the key, to making your scratches sound good is patience and a good foundation. So build up your skills, and take your time.
