Just stumbled on this video in my feed, thanks for this video. I went out to do my walk about and found 2 of my salvia literally flopped to the ground on my walkway. Found something for vines purchased from dollar store, looks horrible, your way is sooo much better. Now, when I find debris(sticks in my yard ) will know what to do with them. This is so simple and economical.

I think that even if one can see the wooden stakes you use, since they are so natural, they do not distract from the beauty of the plants at all. Thank you for sharing this kind of small tricks with us. Unless you have experience with gardening for some time, one might not think of such things.

Genius gentlemen! I tied a string around hibiscus last year and have used metal tomato baskets on other tall perennials. Both ideas are unsightly. I will definitely use your method in the future. Thanks again! Linda

I use the cuttings of my butterfly bush to stake my plants. I save a lot of them, smaller and bigger sizes. Those stakes have already sidebranches to hold plants with, so only need one per plant or even a group of plants.

Thanks for sharing! Plant supports are expensive here, too -- we've always just done it this way and it looks fine to us (and it works)... Plus, these are much easier to store in the winter than metal supports.

We have them laid in sand and then sand in between them. We just use normal sand... I think the package in Danish is something like river sand or beach sand (I forget)... but just sand. Whatever was the cheapest at the building supply store ;)

@@perennial-garden oh yes it is great. It’s always been beautiful and healthy but it’s only had one bloom until this year. I got it in 2019. It looked like a stick. lol I was so surprised and excited when I saw the buds this year. The X was something I started really by accident. I was just trying to keep it up and that’s how I fixed the situation. I made my own wigwams for sweet peas this year. It’s so beautiful but we’ve had so much rain that they are staying to wet. I wanted sweet peas so badly. Your garden truly is a sight to behold.

Our plants are at a good size now.. so the big danger is over. We spend a lot of evenings hunting them when the plants are smaller tho. And on days where it rained a lot during the day. It takes time... but... it's all we've found that really works.
