The little silver knob is also a mixture screw. When the engine is cold it should be open about 3/4 turn. After the car comes to temp dial it back to about 1/4 turn. Don't run it too lean, you'll burn a valve.

last thing is turn the key switch... had your points been closed you would have likely burn them by then time you cranked the engine.

Yea!! I'm sitting here watching this and saying "you're burning up the coil"!!! And, pull the spark lever most of the way down once it starts.

It would have been better starting the car with the proper ignition switch. This car has a cheap repop ignition rather than an original pop-out type. When starting an original Model A, you turn the key and button pops out. When you turn off the car, you push the pop-out button in to break the electrical current to the electrical system. I'd figure that St. Louis Car Museum & Sales would know something as simple as this.

I like know can drive it on HWY and what top speed on Model A. I am thinking buying a Model A or Chevrolet BA?

ROY WALLS Most Model A Ford's can cruise at 45 to 55 miles an hour just fine. It all depends on the differential drive ratio. Some were lower geared than others but most A models don't have a problem running 50 miles an hour. You don't want to push them to hard if its still running the original style lower end engine as they are babibtt poured and you can beat them apart turning to many RPMs. They do however make overdrive units that can mount behind the transmission which will allow for higher cruising speeds. If you are thinking of using one at these speeds you can have the engine built accordingly. All in all they can handle 45 to 55 without a problem.

do you absolutely have to double clutch or can you float gears and I have asthma I need air condition is there a way to get an aftermarket system put in

i dont double clutch mine . i shift it like a regular car. its just a lot less forgiving than a modern car. as far as the ac goes, the front windshield slides out and provides all sorts of airflow. i also need a cool car but my model a is sufficient without one. i just dont go cruise mid day on these south carolina summer days, but evenings are fine and any time during spring fall and winter cruising cabin temps are perfect.

The knob that you said turns to adjust the choke turns to adjust the jet in the carb.

What was the first year that the pedals became the standard as we know it, I mean, gas/brake/clutch?

It looked like he stepped on the clutch pedal to start it. I've never done that with my Model A and it doesn't affect the starting at all.

good habit, keeps the car from moving if you forget to take it out of gear.

Yes, that's possible, especially if you're on the road making several stops such as at garage sales.

modern manuals have clutch interlock switches. My 91 wrangler either doesn't or it was disabled. my 96 tracker, gotta step on the clutch. And that poor design on the tracker has made me put the car in neutral, parking brake on poking around with a flashlight and pushing the button on the switch manually in the middle of the night. The clutch ass embly on trackers leaves something to be desired.

Oh ya. Even my old '78 GMC pickup, standard tranny has that.
